Can blind people perceive light?

Is being blind the same effect as to how someone that can see has their eyes closed? I'm very curious and wondering if that is the case then if they can perceive varying degrees of light like someone with their eyes closed....

In fact, most blind people can see some degree of light. Some can even detect shapes and colors. Being legally blind just means that you have vision of 20/200 or less in the best eye with the use of a corrective lens. Some people who are considered legally blind can even read with the aid of a closed circuit tv.

It does depend on the degree of sight, but you said percieve, if by percieve you mean to use all their senses I would say yes, person who is blind can tell if the sun is up by the heat it emits, however their are times when this is not true, in a grocery store for example it is not that it is percieved that it is light there, it is a general knowledge however that most people see with light so one would assume that the lights are on.

Perception has many facets, some of which are entwined with common sense, so depending on which facet you are speaking of, yes a blind person is in truth more perceptive than most of us.

Depends on the cause of their blindness. Some can detect light, some cannot. Some can see enough to detect motion, but they are still considered blind.

it depends on the degree of blindness though if the eyes are completely shot than no light can be perceived.

By definition, to perceive means to come to understand especially through sensation. They may not come to understand light with their eyes but can by listening to descriptions of it with their ears. If they have no senses at all, comming up with their own correct interpretation would be almost impossible.

Yes, those who are not totally blind, there is a difference between the totally blind and the partially sighted.
