What role does "rite of passage" play in shaping attitudes about homosexuals? - homework help?
I'm writing an essay for my sexuality and society class and I was hoping to incorporate a bunch of worldwide (hopefully!) opinions. The question in context is:
Examine why male adolescents are more likely to be homophobic in modern times than females. What role does "rite of passage" play in shaping attitudes about homosexuals?
ANY opinion would be helpful but please stick to the question otherwise it can't be included.
Thanks for your help in advance

traditionally males are taught form birth that they aren't supposed to cry, show emotion, hug, be submissive, be interested in anything but war, women and sports... girls on the other hand are free to be girly or tomboys and nobody cares... and the ULTIMATE threat to the ( straight ) male ego, is the idea that two "warriors" could be tender and gentle and loving toward each other... the idea threatens their own belief about what it means to be a man.. so they react negatively, because they were taught to...

We don't have a 'rite-of-passage'. There is no ceremony where we spank each other with wet noodles and pound on our chest to the beat of tap-dancers tapping wildly in the amazon rain. We just realize we are gay one day and that is all there is too it. The reason why men are so much more homophobic than females is the connection between loss of masculinity and homosexuality that society endorses. If a man isn't attracted to woman they are considered feminine, because a man is suppose to have ravaging straight wet dreams constantly and according to society a gay man can't do that because he wants to be ladylike and petite. It's really quite ironic - did you know that in Masters & Briggs 1996 survey 93% of woman admitted they fantasized about being dominate in the bedroom? In the same survey 64% of men said that the have fantasized about being submissive in the bedroom. This just goes to prove that what people actually want and what society says that people want are two totally opposite things.

all of it stems from the reality the adult males have greater advantageous brains than women. thrice greater advantageous to be greater magnificent. you notice, smart human beings comprehend that being gay is faulty and immoral, and because adult males are patently smarter, they have a bent to be greater homophobic. it is technological information.
