    I am shocked that this is even a controversial statement... he's basically quoting the Declaration of Independence here....

    "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men..."

    Well Mitt. Can I call you Mitt? Please provide some evidence that God gave me liberty as a gift. Also, please provide evidence that the founding fathers of our government didn't give us the freedom we have today.

    Just another reason not to vote for this retard. How old is he? He talks like a child would. I can't believe people are actually considering this guy to run the most powerful country in the world. Statements like that should scare the living hell out of everyone.

    Too pointedly condescending to religion, I think.

    Consider the difference between this line and "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."

    Even from a cursory glance, Mitt's statement is passive, and seeks little more than a neat little soundbyte. JFK's was "packaged," alright, but it is an active statement, requiring action of the listener.

    Mitt ain't no JFK...

    i'm not familiar enough with the Mormon definition/role of God to make a statement about it

    nor is he familiar enough with everyone's definition/role of God to bring up religion in terms of it's role in the government in large - basically, in my understanding, this is why the founding fathers in their depth of genius opted to keep religion out of government - separation of church and state
