That's normally pretty easy for a desktop or a laptop. If you could advise as which you have, especially a specific model, that would help in terms of giving you instructions.

Yes you can do this yourself but you must be carefull not to touch the gold or silver end that makes contact with the computer you can blow the ram with the electricity inside you, turn the computer off and open the left side of the computer case, the ram unclips by the ends just push to open and the ram will unlock, check the speed of the ram and make sure the speed matches EG. PC-100 or PC 133 ddr ram, look at the bottom of the ram you will notice a slot make sure you line the slot up with the motherboard and install a ram stick into slot 1 and then push down until the ram locks so look and see the sides to see if it locked the ram if it did install the second ram stick into slot 2 and push down until it locks once that locks into place start the computer up and it will tell you at the bios page how much ram you have or you can do it from my computer, once you have 512 MB of ram you can close the side of the computer and your ready to go, hope that helped you it is easy once you done it once or twice good luck.

First of all, it is advisable to get a 512 MB RAM or a 1 GB RAM instead of a 256 MB RAM. There wont be much cost difference. U need to open ur motherboard and then insert the RAMs in the proper slot. U have to make sure the type of RAM that suits ur computer -DDRor DDR2. If u need more help, drop me a mail...

before buying the RAM check its compatibility with ur mother board.

See if u have DDR 1/2/3 they work on different frequencies.RAM with diff. frequencies might create a problem.

SO,after checkiing that u remove the cover from PC,u should be able to c different slots. The biggest in length is of RAM.Also u can recognize it by its structure(it has continuous number of IC's {black rectangular blocks,in case u dont know}).There is a latch normally white on both sides of that slot.Remove the latches by pushing them aside which should not be more than a push. After pushing latches, place the RAM a little above the slot and then push it down SLOWLY when the RAM is in place the latches should get in place automatically but if they are loose then u may need to push them. Then u r ready to test ur handy work.

But instead of going thru this procedure I think u should better be guided by computer expert who is beside u while doing this.As RAM are sleek sheets of PCB they need to be handled very carefully.Best of luck!!!!!

This is for Desktop PC not for laptop.

No, you don't have to re-install Windows. No, your hard drive will be fine. However, your PC might not let you add a 512 memory chip. You need to check on the web site for the manufacturer. Odd as it sounds, some PC's require like chips to be installed. That means you would either have to add a 256 chip, or replace your existing chips with two 512 chips.

I concur with davidis9. You must add compatible memory and have an available memory slot. Your motherboard will need to be able to accommodate the addition which shouldn't be a problem . You will be entering the cabinet and you will need to be grounded either with a strap or by keeping one hand on the metal part of the cabinet while you work. Motherboards aren't too fond of static electricity.

first of all you find your motherboard manual

find what type of ram it support

now you need screw driver set

    open up your cabinet

1.NOW FIND THE SLOT AS SHOWN IN MANUAL

    2.NOW UNLOCK THE SOCKET CLIP

3.ALIGN THE RAM ON THE SOCKET SUCH A WAY TO MATCH THEPORT EAXCTLY

    4. FIRMLY INSERT THE RAM UNTIL THE CLIPS SNAP BACK PROPERLY

    your job is done

    don't power up durinng installation

    don't push the ram hard

Yes sure.. All you have to do is check your RAM's type such as DDR etc.. Get a same kind of another RAM of 256MB and jus remove the CPU box and you will find a place parrallel to your older RAM's chip.. jus insert it to tat place and replace your things.. You'll be given a cd jus install it.. Tat's it..

    Too easy to go..

1.first of all..u must know that which type is going to add..for ex..DDR1 or DDR2 or SD ram...

    2. second thing, mother board should have minimum 2 slots..

3.As u aware of all., u can do it yourself...

remove cabin, find the slot, just clean ur ram and insert it.

it automatically locked by end tiny jacks...
