I'm having a baby shower tomorrow for a friend... What is the usual order in which to do everything?

Should I serve the food first, have mom open gifts first, play games first? I'm at a loss!

Food, games, presents. That's how my baby shower was. I was really hungry when I got there so it worked out well.

Well usually you have gifts opened near the end because people come late, etc. It depends on how the food is being served. Usually it's all laid out finger food type of deal, and so you can lay that out and have the games in-between like every 15 or 30 mins. It's good to space them out (the games I mean) but you don't want to make people wait for the food because most will probably be hungry :)

Serve food, play games, and then open gifts. If you have a buffet set up, guests can eat and mingle while everyone is arriving (assuming you aren't planning a sit down dinner). If you have a cake, cut it right after you open presents. That way people don't feel as if they are being kicked out as soon as gifts are done.

Ya, like answer #1, usually people come in mingling and saying hi to mommy to be, than after about 30 minutes announce they can eat, which usually taks about 45 min total, than play some games for 45 minutes, than open gifts for final hour.

Depends on what time it starts and how excited guests are to be there! If you think people are going to bolt after they eat, then play games first and then eat! Definitely save mom opening gifts for the end, so guests who want to leave can skip out and not miss anything important. (Who wants to watch mom open gifts? It's really boring. Ohhh....she got the pink diaper bag.....zzzzzz).

In my shower we serve food first it was quite well organized.

    played games

    then we opened gifts

at my baby shower we played games then ate then opened presents. i like that order, because nobodys burned out in the beginning to play games, meanwhile they work up an appitite, and then are able to sit and relax.
