Where does the phrase "a pinch of experience is worth a peck of theory" come from?
If you can give detail on what it means that would be helpful too.

1 AnswerGarden & Landscape1 decade agoHow horrible would Sweet Italian Sausage taste with Spanish Rice?
I usually serve chorizo with spanish rice, but I am trying to use up what I have on hand because I will be moving next week and really don't want to just throw it away. And I really don't want to go to the grocery store to buy chorizo... thoughts?
6 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoI have a brother sewing machine. Why does my bobbin thread wrap around the bobbin casing?
I am positive the thread is in the correct position. When I start to sew, the bobbin thread gets bunched up underneath the fabric and in the machine. When I open it up, the thread is wrapped around the bobbin casing several times. I always have to cut it to free it from the machine. Anyone have a clue what is causing this?
10 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoHow much should I offer for a mobile home?
I am looking to buy a mobile home that just came on the market yesterday. It is the lowest priced home available in my area, $10,000 cheaper than the next one up, although it does have one less bedroom. They are asking $19,900. Since it's new on the market and priced so much lower than others, I know the seller is not going to sway too much in price. Is there a "standard" to go by? Such as 1%, 3% etc... under asking? This is the first time I'm purchasing a home since my divorce. I don't want to overpay. But this is probably going to be the ONLY thing I can afford. 2br apts go for $900+ in my area. I'm living with my grandmother right now and just want a place of my own!
6 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoAnyone have a breast feeding to bottle recommendation?
My daughter will be returning to college after giving birth to her son recently. She will be pumping and we need a good alternative so baby doesn't become confused with the new method of feeding. We are looking at The First Years Breastflow Bottle:

Is this truly the most realistic substitution, or is there something better you can recommend?
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoWhere can I buy unused soda bottle caps for my art projects?
I need a good source (other than ebay) that sells soda bottle caps. I like to use all different brands in my projects but all I can ever find on ebay are small lots, or lots of all one type. Any sources you could give me would be great!

I have recently heard about early communication with infants and toddlers through sign language. I've checked out Amazon and there are several books available on the subject. I was just wondering if anyone has used this method of communication with their baby and if there's a book or two that you recommend?

4 AnswersHobbies & Crafts1 decade agoHave you ever been to a good old fashioned pig pickin'?
When I was small, my family and I used to spend our summers in North Carolina with family. I'm an adult now, and haven't been there in years. Anyway, we would always have a big party complete with a pit roasted hog and LOTS of salads, sides, and desserts as far as the eye could see! I was just think about this earlier today. Do you have any memories like this? What kinds of foods do you remember eating? If you have recipes, please post!!
10 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoWhat's your favorite one dish meal?
I made a one dish taco bake with mac'n cheese, ground beef, taco seasoning, salsa, and sour cream. I think I might try it with beans and maybe corn next time. It can be served on a bed of lettuce or with a salad on the side. Anyway... my family loves these types of meals. So, what are your favorite one dish meals? Recipes would be appreciated.

14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoFor Marylanders: What do you consider a traditional MD food besides crabs & oysters?
We're having out-of-state guests next week and I wanted to serve some "traditional" maryland meals. Crabcakes are a given, but I can't afford seafood everynight. So are there any other traditional dishes that I could make to welcome my guests to Maryland?
