How can I get rid of ice on my garage floor?

My garage floor is getting so slippery from the snow that is coming off my car. How can I get rid of the ice. Is it safe to put that salt stuff that you'd use on the driveway or sidewalk on my garage floor or will that harm it?

I wouldn't want to put salt or any other ice melter in my garage. Buy a large squeegee, like the size of a push broom, and push the snow and water out of the garage. That's what I do.

If your garage floor is concrete and in good shape, no spalling or major cracking salt is the most effective and economical option.

If your floor is in bad shape calcium chloride is a better option since it is a little more mild than sodium chloride.

the salt rocks are safe for your garage floor..unless for some reason, you have marble or granite..but, I'm assuming that you don't. ..

the only downside to the salt, is that when the ice melts, you have a slush. ..I would suggest shoveling the slush out of your garage, and onto the side of your driveway. (away from where you are going to drive on it)

Use kitty litter. It will absorb the moisture, won't harm the garage floor, and can be swept up easily. It also prevents slipping. Carry some in your trunk in case you get stuck in the snow....it makes great traction.

I would use a safer version of salt, like ice melter. Your local stores will have both versions. You are looking for a calcium chloride version, or potasium chloride version, the rock salt will do big damage to your garage and you don't want to track that inside.
