Could a persons blood sugar be metabolized like normal sugar?
My girlfriend is diabetic, and we were debating this fact. I asked "what would you do if you if your blood sugar was too low and there was no sugar around for miles?"
Then I suggested that if she drank my blood (yeah, kinda weird, but this is hypothetical) then the sugar in my blood would help raise her blood sugar level. I do realize this would probably be a miniscule amount, if at all; but I just wanted to know if it was possible.
She disagrees and thinks that the glucose in someone's blood cannot be used like that.
Anyone have an answer?

Well, let's see. Generally, you should start with 15 grams of glucose. If your blood glucose concentration when she drinks it is high normal, say 100mg/dL (1000mg/L), she'd have to drink 15Liters of your blood. You only have 5 or 6 liters of blood. Sorry, won't work, unless you're diabetic and your sugar is at least 4-5 times normal (for purposes of leaving you some blood).

There probably isn't enough glucose in your blood to raise someone else's bg. Unless they drink all of your blood.
Any food will raise her blood sugar, but especially carbohydrates. This means that if there is no sugar around for miles, potato chips, or fries or a burger will raise her bg. Not as quickly as sugar, but will still work.

since you are not diabetic, there would not be a particularly high level of glucose in your blood. It would be metabolized like other sugar, but there is probably not enough to counteract the hypoglycemia.

No, the glucose in the blood stream cannot be used as you suggest.
Your girlfriend is right.
She should always carry a glucose supply with her.

finding out your levels 2 hours after ingesting is greater suited than doing so a million hour after, your point must be under one hundred forty 2 hours after food, commonplace levels are between 70 and a hundred and twenty mg/dl. i do no longer understand specific gestational diabetes subject concerns, yet I easily have been form a million diabetic 15 years in the past, i do no longer think of is a reliable concept to start a weight loss application, yet while your dietitian say so, do it. reliable luck
