  • Are minor loss coefficients for valves applicable for any typical fluid?

Doing a lab for my fluids class, and I am wondering if the measured K values for a valve would change for a fluid of different viscosity?

  • Stuck Microwave door - need model number (Sharp Carousel - see pics)?

The door on my microwave seems to be stuck shut (the Door Open button does not release the door). I do not have the original user's manual, so I first need to determine the model number of the microwave in order to get more information on it and possibly order new parts. It is mounted over the oven, so I would prefer not to have to take it down.

I have taken pictures of the microwave on my phone (excuse the blurriness), so hopefully someone can help me determine the correct model number so I can proceed with getting it working properly.

  • Blue Screen of Death - Windows Vista. How can I find the source?

My Windows Vista computer has recently been crashing quite a bit.

I installed a new video card not too long ago, but I after swapping it out for my old card, I still got crashing problems. I also tried doing a system restore, to no avail. I ran a virus scan, and everything seemed clean.

After a lot of trial an error, I think it could have something to do with some startup program or service. When I start my computer while it is connected to the internet (via wireless adapter), it crashes soon after. However, when I run it in safe mode, or start with the wireless adapter disconnected, I don't have a problem. I have been disabling startup programs through windows defender one after the other, and it's almost just bare bones right now. I still get the crashing problems, and I don't know how to resolve it.

After looking up what the two BSoD errors I have gotten, both are "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP" errors that are caused by a "Double Fault" (whatever that is)

    specifically: 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x803D3130, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) and

    0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80157000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Can anyone shed some light on this and help me resolve this issue?

  • What type of paint is safe for use in medical devices?

I need to find a non-toxic paint (any color) that is approved for use in medical devices. I'm not sure of the actual application, but let's just assume it will be implanted into someone's body, so we can make sure it's VERY safe.

  • What type / size screw or bolt should I use?

So, here's what I am doing... There is a fairly heavy part (probably close to 75 pounds) that has an aluminum plate on the bottom, with 4 holes of 3/8" diameter. I want to fasten this plate to a wooden crate, and also through that to a pallet. The crate is 1/2" thick, the pallet boards are 1" thick, and we'll say the plate is 1/4" thick.

I basically need to know what would be an appropriate set of fasteners to secure this item. My boss was suggesting using something that went all the way through, and then attached with a washer and nut, but I don't know what size or type of fastener to use. Also, do I need to take any precautions, such as drilling out holes as to not split the wood? I appreciate your advice!

  • What does "1 mil" polyester tape mean? (electrical)?

ok, i know it has something to do with the thickness, but it is inconsistent with the overall thickness of 5.9 mils listed on this data sheet. http://www.permacel.com/files/ProductDetails.aspx?...

looking at the diagram, there are many different layers. Does the "1 mil" correspond to a particular layer? Someone help me figure out what these designations mean :P

  • Would a rod, hinged at one end to a wall, have a constant angular acceleration if released at 45 degrees?

So i'm doing a problem for my dynamics class, and there is a rod that is hinged on one end to a wall. It is released from rest at 45 degrees from the horizontal.

What I want to know, is will the angular acceleration remeain constant since it is influenced only by gravity, or will it vary, since the magnitude of the moment is dependent on the of the rod?

I am just trying to find out if I will be stuck with a second order differential equation, or if the angular acceleration from 45 degrees to the horizontal is dependent only on that initial angle.

  • Does economic growth depend heavily on population growth?

So I'm taking a class on Macroeconomics, and my professor always tells us how important economic growth is. Thinking about it, though, it seems like an economy could only grow so much before hitting the limitations on resources and such that are imposed by reality.

Since Earth only has a finite amount of resources, and there is exponential population growth, can we really ALWAYS expect economic growth? What I'm really trying to ask is that if we slowed down population growth (actually made it decrease or level off at 0% net change), could we still expect economic growth?

  • What is the origin of 8 1/2" x 11" paper?

Seriously, who decided that would be a good size?

It's not like it could be a conversion from metric, because it is EXACTLY 8 1/2" wide.

Is there some significance to this size?

  • What can I do If I am overcharged for a ticket? (California)?

At the beginning of the month, I was given a ticket for Fare Evasion, (not paying the $1.25 fare to use the bus). (This is a first offense, mind you)

I have been waiting all month for them to process the ticket and send me something in the mail. When I finally called in, I found the ticket was for a ridiculous $282 plus a $7.50 processing fee.

My grandma already paid the ticket on her credit card, but after I looked into California state Penal code, Section 640, part b1, the fee is to not be in excess of $250. So now, whoever is in charge of issuing this fine(the police, or city, I presume), has twisted the law to swindle me out of more of my money.

What actions can I take to straighten this out, after already paying this fine? If I were to go to court, would they just pay me the difference, or would they be more accountable? As far as I know, one of my rights as an American is not to be subjected to such excessive fines (especially as it is clearly written in the California code), and I don't think whoever has issued this fine should be let off so lightly!

  • How do I integrate (1-t^2)*e^(-[t^2]/2)?

I am completely stuck on this integral. I know what the answer is, but i don't know the steps i am supposed to take to reach it.

I tried thinking of a clever u substitution and considered even integrating by parts, but every time i think it over it doesn't seem like it will come out well. Can someone explain it to me?

  • Physics question involving tension. (with picture!)?

This is a question straight from my physics exam today:

A uniform rod, AB, is 1.2 m long and weighs 16 N. It is suspended by strings AC and BD as shown. A block, P, weighing 96 N is attached at E, 0.30 m from A. The magnitude of the tension force in the string BD is:

^ This is the illustration given. (recreated on MS paint by me :P)

Now, I am quite sure it involves torque, but I honestly dont know how i should use it in order to find the tension in BD

  • How do I treat a kanker sore?

So the other week I had this ulcer on the inside of my lip... it hurt like hell but i decided to sit it out and just let it heal on its own (it took at least a week =[ ).

Now, I have somehow developed what looks like one on the right side of my throat. It really sucks and constantly feels like I have a sore throat or like there's something physically there irritating it. Is there anything I can do?

  • Could a persons blood sugar be metabolized like normal sugar?

My girlfriend is diabetic, and we were debating this fact. I asked "what would you do if you if your blood sugar was too low and there was no sugar around for miles?"

Then I suggested that if she drank my blood (yeah, kinda weird, but this is hypothetical) then the sugar in my blood would help raise her blood sugar level. I do realize this would probably be a miniscule amount, if at all; but I just wanted to know if it was possible.

She disagrees and thinks that the glucose in someone's blood cannot be used like that.

    Anyone have an answer?

  • Why is the wattage for a guitar amp different than is input power?

Well I'm not an electrician or anything, but i was just curious about this since I noticed it.

I have a Fender 212R guitar amp, which is supposedly 100 Watts. Well I looked on the back by where the power cable plugs in and it said Input Power 360 W

So my question is, what happens to the other 260 watts here?

  • About what concentration of gasoline fumes would need to be in the air to ignite?

So this one time, I'm sitting in the passenger seat of a van at a gas station, and I'm pretty bored. With the quick impulse of an attention deficient child, I grabbed for a cigarette lighter and was about to flick it on.

Luckily, I was slapped in the face by some obvious logic: "DUH, I'm at a gas station."

So I put down the lighter, and realized how near I was to possibly blowing myself up.

Just out of curiosity, would anyone happen to know approximately how concentrated the air would need to be with fumes for it to be able to ignite and blow up the whole gas station?
