Singers / Directors HELP PLEASE!! I sing in a church choir and am having trouble singing correct notes?

Ive been singing in choirs since grade school. It is just recently that I am having difficulty and not with all songs. It happens enough to where it is disruptive. I feel like I cannot hear the tones I am singing or I will be singing and I will just lose the note I am supposed to be hitting. Sometimes, I will drift up to soprano or down to tenor. Maybe I need some pitch training software. Any suggestions would be appreciated by myself and my director and the rest of the alto's.

thanks

Update:

The song I messed up on yesterday is a song we had not sang in month or two.

Once we learn a song we should know it, but with everything that goes on my life. I cannot remember every note. I remembered the opening notes, but lost it on the bridge.

Alto's part in songs doesnt usually carry the melody and has lots of changes. and notes that dont go where it seems natural - at least to me.

I'll just have to pray about it and also visit the sites you suggested.

thanks Dana & lynndram

it sounds like you are allowing yourself to drift off mentally, instead of concentrating on the music. This can happen from time to time, and it isn't a bad thing, just human.

Think back to the songs where this has happened recently. Were you bored with the music? Perhaps it's been over-rehearsed.

Were you uncomfortable with the situation? Was it just rehearsal or a performance?

What's your stress level like? How comfy are you with yourself at this time? That's probably the number 1 issue for most of us.

Google has just given me a couple of websites: goodear.com and eartraining.com by typing in "ear training".

why don't you take a look there, and see what interests you? Good musicianship is always a plus, and enhances your enjoyment of the music as well as keeping you on track.

Best wishes and keep on singing
