XP home disc shattered?

I was reinstalling XP and the disc committed suicide in my DVD drive, I eventually got the shards out, I have the original box and security stickers does any kind soul know if I can pack this up and send it somewhere in the U.K. to get a replacement disc. I originally bought it from a computer fare 14-15 months ago.

Thank you people.

All XP home disks should be identical- it's just your license code which is individual to your computer. There should be a sticker either on the Windows manual, or stuck to the case.

If you replace the DVD drive (unless you just didn't seat the disk right and simply trapped it) try and borrow a friend's disk. It will be valid providing you use your own license code.

Contact Microsoft. If you have a legitmate key they will probably send you another CD. They will also probably give you a new key and deactivate the one you have now.

You are only the second person I have known of to have this happen - the disc self destructing in the drive.

    1 replace the drive

2 you can borrow a friends disc as long as you use your keycode
