Blue Ray or HD DVD, which one would you go for and why?
I don't really want a gaming machine that plays DVD's. I was wondering which format provides he best quality

I don't think there will be a clear winner between the two formats, the result will be more like dvd-rw vs. dvd+rw. Sooner or later, companies will flood the market with players that support both formats at reasonable prices. If you're in need of a player right now & play video games, buying a playstation 3 is the way to go.

At the moment its like Betamax V VHS all over again.
If I was going to get a machine I would get a `Hybryd` machine that plays HD DVD, Blu Ray and normal DVD`s
LG make a good one.

Well, this isn't really answering your question but I wouldn't buy either right now. I would just buy an upconverting player and use standard dvd's until there is a clear winner between the 2.
