I was stuck in a lift at work for 2 hours at work and really could have done with my mobile phone but didn't have it on me cause I was working.
If I was shopping and it got stuck, some water and my phone would be good.

Paper bags and water, I'm claustrophobic and would need the bags to breath in and out of when I start to panic and the water to drink.

I don't think lift in America is the same lift you're talking about...but if I got stuck somewhere I hope I have something to drink, my cell phone, and my iPOD
