Although PC is now mostly associated with the Left, it really took off under the guidance of President George H.W. Bush (aka Bush 4.1)....
After 8 years of Reagan tough talk, Bush expoused a new era of civility, encouraging speech that was overly conscious about not offending....I believe his famous "Kinder, gentler nation" speech was the starting point of what we now call the modern political correctness movement.
Ironically, the Left jumped all over Bush's "don't offend" policy and painted him to look like a weak, out of touch old man. Bush came across as a whimpy grandfather when the nation was looking for new energy.
Clinton rode into town as the biggest Populist since Andrew Jackson. Whereas Bush the Elder waved an admonishing finger and said "don't offend" like some antique schoolmaster, Billy the Kid flashed a peace sign and said "it's all good."
Under Clinton, PC became less about telling people what to do and more about letting people do whatever they wanted...Holding people to standards froma previous generation was definitely "not PC."
Clinton was generally a Centrist, but his permissive style allowed the Far Left to take hold of the PC movement. Social Engineering (enacting societial change by controlling the environment...in this case, language) had long been a core of the Left philosophy. If you can stop people from using certain words, the theory goes, you can eventually change the way people think.

okay, I'm sorry if you have allowed yourself and your faith to be threatened by pundits spitting cheap red herrings to avoid expensive, systemic problems of substance.
I would only offer this, when these feelings occur, consider the construct of time. In particular consider the calendar, that as the guardians of hegemony we have hoisted on the broader world and appreciate that it is a Christian calendar.
Now maybe we can talk about where the money is going to come from to pay our social liabilities (medicare and social security), whether we should continue in the Doha round, focus on bilateral free trade, or move away from globalization, what to do about the drug war and finally, how we are going to protect our interests in the soon to come multi-polar world.

Merry Christmas to you too, but remember the meaning of Christmas. It's about peace love and giving honor to Jesus's birthday; not bigotry.

Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Hanukkah are also appropriate holiday greetings for this time of year, depending on whom you're addressing. If you're not sure, then Happy Holidays is always appropriate. Expanding one's range of vision is always a good thing.
