Tejada to the Astros?

Former American League MVP Miguel Tejada was traded Wednesday from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros for five players. The Orioles got outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo, Baltimore president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said.

Some of those guys are good prospects, but they are all just prospects, so unless Tejada stinks up the place for the rest of his career, the Stros did well.

This could be very good for the Orioles too. Albers is a potential number 1 or 2 starter and Scott has a ton of pop.

Thank the Lord the Orioles finally traded Tejada. There had been so much talk around Baltimore about what the Orioles were going to do. They did get some more good young talent for their team now. This is exactly what the Orioles want. They need to rebuild by bringing in lots of young guys who will develop into something.

I personally think that the Orioles shouldn't trade Bedard. Though they could get more talent, he is the only proven pitcher that the Orioles have on their roster. Guthrie and Loewen are young and still developing. Bedard could be a big time mentor to all the young pitchers they have and get in these trades.

I'm not familiar with any of those prospects, other than Scott, but I still think Baltimore made a good move. From what I hear, Tejada is a good clubhouse guy, but his days as a premier power hitter look to be over. It's been 3 years since he hit more than 30 home runs in a season, and he is still owed $24 million over the next two years.

The Astros really pulled off a good trade in that deal, they were all over the place when they didn't have Tejada and now they have Kazuo Matsui and him plus I think they courting the Orioles for Erik Bedard.

  • Not really too sure on the quality of the prospects that houston traded, but I'd have to say unless all 4 of them were garbage, then the Stro's got got. Sounds like they gave up way too many players 4 a guy who is prolly steroids tainted. But one position they needed was a shortstop so I guess really only time'll tell.

seems they gave up so many for one guy who was not happy in Baltimore. will see how this plays out in the long run.
