  • New One For Me?

Detroit had a goal disallowed because they banked it off the referee's leg! In all my years, that's the first time I'd ever seen or heard of that happening.

    Anyone else?

  • Who wants to talk baseball for a change?

The Cardinals signed Bob Gibson's son and invited him to Spring Training. How cool will February and March in Florida be with the Hall-of-Famer hanging around camp again?

Don't you wish you had a Big League Dad to get advice from?

  • Can I Get An A(wo)men?!?

It will be a professional hockey first when the Cincinnati Cyclones use an all-female off-ice officiating crew for their inaugural “Pink In The Rink” game on Friday.

The women, who have been training throughout the season at Cyclones games, will operate the game clock and record game statistics while also working as goal judges and penalty box attendants.

The all-female off-ice crew is the idea of Cyclones off-ice official supervisor Tim O’Shea, who has survived two bouts with cancer. Cancer has affected the lives of eight of the 25 women scheduled to work the game, including six who have lost a loved one to the disease and another whose husband has had eight surgeries to remove tumors and growths.

The ice at U.S. Bank Arena will be pink and the Cyclones will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned following the game with proceeds benefiting the Patty Brisben Foundation for women’s health issues.

  • Tejada to the Astros?

Former American League MVP Miguel Tejada was traded Wednesday from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston Astros for five players. The Orioles got outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo, Baltimore president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said.

  • What Number Should The Cubs New Outfielder Wear?

Cubs signed outfielder Fukudome. I think uniform sales will be phenomenal, especially if he's assigned the #69!

    What number would you pick?

  • Waxing Nostalgic?

I've been thinking of the old days, growing up. I had the honor of listening to Dan Kelly, Sr. and Noel Picard broadcasting another barnburner from Oakland Avenue on KMOX radio. Whenever Mr. Kelly had to run off and do NHL work, a certain John Francios Buck would sometimes try his hand at play-by-play, proving he was more than just a baseball and football icon! Sadly, when Dan died of cancer, a huge hole was left in the hockey world and his sizable shoes were attempted to be filled by Ken Wilson.

Don't get me wrong, Mr. "Oh, Baby!" was a capable fill-in, but like any veteran replacing a legend, he was never given the reception he deserved, even though he stayed for a long time.

My question is do you have such fond memories? I know Canadians have Don Cherry. New Yorkers/New Jerseyans have Doc Emery. And so forth. I mean TRUE legends!

  • Scott Seabol's turning Japanese?

The Hiroshima Carp have acquired former St. Louis Cardinals infielder Scott Seabol, baseball sources said Wednesday.

Hiroshima has brought in the 32-year-old Seabol to fill the void left by slugger Takahiro Arai, who recently agreed to join the Central League's Hanshin Tigers after declaring free agency. Seabol also has major league experience with the New York Yankees.

Does this have a lasting effect on the world of baseball? How can we blame Hank Steinbrenner?

  • Raising the White Flag in November?

The Cardinals, on Monday, signed Jason LaRue, to a 1-year, $850k, contract to back-up Yadier Molina for 2008. Those of you that remember LaRue with the Reds and Royals knows that he perfected the passed ball to an artform!

Please, God, protect Yadier from injury and keep him safe and behind the plate next year. I don't want to have the infield having to shift around to BEHIND the batter to back-up the back-up catcher! LOL

  • Moral Issue?

There is an Illinois woman suing the Cardinals and Busch Stadium because someone was able to get the scoreboard operator to display a text message, during a game, that her daughter had a sexually transmitted disease.

While tragic that this all happened and irresponsible for whomever was operating the text scoreboard to allow that message to go "live", my question is this:

Roughly 45,000 MAY have seen this at that game. How many hundreds of thousands are reading about it in the newspapers across the Midwest and on MLB.com? Is this mother causing MORE damage to her daughter's life by dragging this out? Where should a parent draw that fine line?

    Interesting moral dilemma, isn't it?

  • End of the dynasty?

  • Are Sox fans really that callused?

I'm not from Colorado. I don't pretend to be from Colorado. I rooted for the Rockies because they, as a team, voted to have a full playoff share go to the family of Mike Coolbaugh, the minor league coach that was killed this past Summer by a line drive to the head. His widow is left with two young boys and a baby that is due next month. What better reason to have a team succeed than to make sure that those people are provided for in their time of need?

Then I come on here and there are questions about the team's faith, reasons to HATE the Rockies (since removed), and other vile references. Did Cardinals fans act like this last year? Seriously, people!

  • Suspicious?

The local FOX affiliate ran a story on Kevin Youkilis, who went from obsurity in Mason, Ohio, to the World Series with the Boston Red Sox. The pictures of him in High School and with the University of Cincinnati showed a puny kid. Now I know a man grows into his body between 18 and 25, but come on!

Are we looking at a future story of needles and performance-enhancing medication?
