I saw it a few years ago when a Flyer did the same thing.Weird rule.

Looks like Sean John has the right answer. The Buffalo Sabres had a goal disallowed 2 weeks ago Wednesday when the puck was tipped in off a another Sabres skate.

That's a strange one for sure. Personally, I think any time the puck changes direction because an official couldn't get out of the way fast enough, play should be stopped. It's a pain, but to me it's basically the same thing as a puck bouncing off the mesh onto somebody's stick; no good.

actually i just read through the rule book a little bit and i fell upon this. It said somin around if a player hits it off their teams skate or the ref the goal shall be disallowed. If the puck is bounce off the other team or the post or goalie the goal shall be counted. If a player shoot and his/her teamate tips it or bounces off them incidently the goal shall be counted and the goal will be scored under the number the puck bounced off of.

I didn't see the goal and in 30+ years I have never seen it actually happen, but it is a standard rule in all leagues that I know of that a goal cannot be scored on a deflection/redirection directly off of an official.

I heard the rule before, but I've never seen it happen till now. No big deal to me though, a rule is a rule, and besides, if it didn't hit the ref it wouldn't have gone in.

Minnesota is Hockeytown. Didn't see the goal. Cancelled my subscription to Sports Illustrated. Detroit Red Wings lack spine. Wild lack originality and Canadians.

That's the referees fault they're supposed to dodge it

i didnt see that goal ethier... but it should not be counted... + what was the reff doing next to the net? one ref should be on the blue line one on the goal line and the other one on the top of the circle (i think? lol forgot haha)

I've never experienced or watched this kind of goal. . .
