Turn the knob to OFF. Wait 5 - 10 minutes for all gas to vent.
Rotate the knob to the next position, "Pilot."
You will find an indentation there so you can hold down the Pilot Button to allow more gas to the pilot light.
Hold it down and light the pilot and continue to hold it for 30 - 60 seconds. If it goes out, immediately light it and the button down longer. If you can't get the Pilot to stay lit, you need a new thermo-couple and/or gas valve and need professional help (unless you have knowledge of gas appliances and how gas works)
if the pilot stays on after you release the button, great.
Replace any covers.
Get your face back away from the flame area and turn the gas knob to On.

With the knob on pilot, push down on it and hold while trying to light it. Hold it down for a minute or so and then release. It should stay lit. Then turn the knob to on and your set. If the pilot wont stay lit, call a tech.
