what kind of activities can you do with a newborn?
I am wondering what kind of activities can you do with a newborn? My baby literally sleeps about 23 hours a day and I can't wake her up, but on the other hand I feel guilty just letting her sleep. and not having any quality time with her.

Babies that are very young usually sleep alot. Dont force her to wake up or anything she needs her bueaty sleep. I would suggest. when she is awake talking to her, singing to her, giving her eye contact. She knows you are there, you actually have alot more time with her than you think. when you change her diaper, when you feed her, and when you hold her. Good luck

The best activities for a newborn are simply being "worn" on mama and watching the world or sleeping next to the ffamiliar heartbeat she has known for the last 9 months.
Get a good sling (like the peanut shell or Maya Wrap) or a meiTai or a Moby wrap. Put her on and do what you normally do.

It is NEVER too early to start interacting. True, there is barely any time to interact in the first 4 weeks but you can make the most out of the tiny windows of alert time. While breast feeding, sing to her, or simply talk to her. If she is eating, she is somewhat alert. Hearing your voice will help trigger her curiosity. If she stays awake after eating, (which she will very shortly for small amounts of time that will gradually increase) use this time as well to talk to her. There is not much "play" at this time but definitely opportunity for interaction and stimulation. By 4-6 weeks she will start handing out real smiles to you, then 5-8 weeks she will be interacting with lots of play.

Go outside for nice long walks. It is healthy and you get out. The sun also helps to clear up jaundice if she has any. Let her sleep as long as she wakes often enough to eat. At that age they eat, sleep, pee and poop and that is about the end of it. Take some naps yourself if you can. This stage is short and you will not be able to enjoy so much quiet time.

You should be waking your baby up at least every 4 hours, it's unhealthy for her to go any longer at this age.
While she is awake you can do baby massage, cuddling or a number of other activities including helping her stretch and giving her tummy time.

No, she needs her sleep. When she is awake and when you are feeding her, turn the TV off, sing to her, and make lots of eye contact. That's the BEST thing you can do. Prety soon, the sleep time will lessen.

This stage doesn't last long. Let her sleep. You certainly don't want to force her to stay away or wake her up. Enjoy the time to heal, sleep and clean.

Breast feed her, change her diapers, make funny faces, take her outdoors, gush, use your imagination
