Need grammar help!! Is this sentence correct or should I replace swam with swum?

Swum or swam???

"At only 51 years old he had swum with alligators..."

    "Swum" is correct. It is the past participle, required when using the past perfect.

    Be aware, however, there is a move afoot that would allow the use of the simple past "swam" in this and other similar past perfect circumstances as it is becoming more commonplace in its usage.

    Swam, but they both in the past tense and mean the smae thing. Swamm just sounds better.

    either way or vise versa doesnt matter cause they're both right either way..
