1 AnswerSoftware1 decade agoMy cat licks herself until she bleeds?
Vets have suggested antihistamine for allergies which she takes every day to no avail. She licks in the same spots over and over until she oozes and bleeds. It is disgusting. She has done this for years and nothing we have tried has worked. She eats well, has companionship and seems quite content otherwise. Any suggestions?

3 AnswersYahoo Groups1 decade agoCan you overcome a horse's natural inclinations?
We own a GORGEOUS flea-bitten grey Hanoverian. My daughter had been training/showing him in hunter classes but was always marked down because of his head carriage being high and curved, etc. Natural Hanoverian carriage that she was only occasionally able to move to a more hunter position. She has now switched to dressage training which seems much more "natural" to him. He looks fantastic at it, as a matter of fact. So, that begs the question, do certain breeds lend themselves better to certain disciplines and should we even try to overcome nature training them sort of against their predispositions??

7 AnswersOther - News & Events1 decade agoI posted a previous question about whether ectopic pregnancy removal?
equated with abortion and cited a case from Nicaragua of a woman who died because doctors were afraid to remove the ectopic pregnancy for fear of being accused of performing an abortion. (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=As0kV... Interestingly, many people said this could NEVER happen in the US, but in today's Yahoo news there is an article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071114/ap_on_re_us/ab... that says there are those who seek to define a fertilized egg as a person, with all the inalienable rights to do process, etc. of any person. Although supporters of the measure claim this has nothing to do with abortion, what might happen in the case of an ectopic pregnancy?? The egg IS fertilized at that point. Would the woman have to go to court to receive the surgery to remove the ectopic pregnancy? Would the delay cost lives? Is this a slippery slope? Your comments?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071105/ap_on_re_la_am...
Although this happened in Nicaragua, are we facing this if the conservatives manage to pass "no abortions" legislation?? Women are dying because of the government's hard line on "no abortions," even to save the life of the mother. Any comments??
11 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoPlease help me understand my horse's behavior at show this weekend?
My daughter took her horse to an "away" schooling show Saturday. The horse was extraordinarily hyper. She had so much trouble controlling him in her flat classes she scratched from her jumping classes out of fear of injury to herself and/or the horse. While I fully support her decision to scratch under the circumstances, I want to try to avoid this situation in the future, if possible. This is only the second show she has taken him to (only owned him a few months). He did very well at first show, although showed some apprehension at audience people near the ring. This past weekend circumstances were as follows: He travelled without another horse (previous show he travelled with 3 others). Wind was blowing quite briskly (Noel was offshore around the same time. Not close, but could that have factored?) The show "ring" was makeshift. They had turned over the base of their regular ring and so had simply cordoned off an area of grass. One side was on a downward grade (or upward depending).
16 AnswersHorses1 decade agoPardon my naivete, but how does this work??
A music concert was just announced to take place in my town in January 2008. Tickets to the "general public" go on sale Monday at 10:00AM. An on-line search reveals ticket brokers already selling tickets at considerably over the face value indicated on the official ticket seller's website. First question, how do the ticket brokers get the tickets they are selling already (or do they even already have them??) and how do they skirt scalping laws that prohibit sales at over face value??
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoUse of harbridge?
My daughter's trainer has suggested we buy a harbridge to help build up her horse's back muscle line by bringing his rear end up underneath him more. I can only find them for sale via the Internet in UK. Does anybody know anyplace in the US that sells them? Or an alternative piece of equipment that can accomplish the same purpose?? Anybody have any input about use of a harbridge. I have read some things that say horses have been known to flip themselves over in one. Kinda scary.

19 AnswersHorses1 decade agoManaging shivers and shoeing?
We are managing a Hanoverian gelding with a fairly mild case of shivers. He is on high fat, low carb grain. He gets lots of exercise and pasture time. About the only time it manifests is when attempting to clean his rear hooves and shoeing. We can handle the cleaning issue, but shoeing is another matter. Would it help to ride him prior to shoeing? Do we need to resort to sedation? Also, our trainer suggested possibly not shoeing him, but he is 15 and has always had shoes, plus my daughter is planning to use him in hunter/jumper and I think he would need the shoes. Any advice?
