Christians and atheists: thoughts on this article?

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/10/colorado.shooting...

Its about the lady who stopped the Colorado missionary shooter,, here are the important parts.

"I give the credit to God. And I say that very humbly. God was with me and the whole time I was behind cover -- this has got to be God, because of the firepower that [the gunman] had vs. what I had," Assam said.

"I did not run away and I didn't think for a minute to run away, I just knew that I was given the assignment to end this before it got too much worse. I just prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide me."

"I was weak, and where I was weak, God made me strong," she said. "He filled me and he guided me and protected me and many other people. And I'm honored that God chose me."

So atheists, is this woman just delusional, or has she just fallen back on her prior police training?

Christians, can the all-merciful God really basically order the death of one of his sons like this?

Update:

oh he committed suicide?

Is that newer news..?

Update 2:

ok i guess the shooter shot himself, but my questions still kind of apply. And calm down kellie im not attacking anyone.

Would it be more Christian to allow him to go on killing?

    New material here:

While she didn't kill him, she did wound him and checked his attack. That he committed suicide is indicative that he knew his attack had been/would be over. She should still be credited for stopping this.

I don't know the details of the situation, so I will respond hypothetically. God gives us the right to defend the lives of others. And the law recognizes that right as well. It is called "justification" and it permits a person to use whatever force is necessary to protect someone else, even deadly force, provided that the force is not excessive. In this case, killing the gunman would not have been excessive force.

God is a God of mercy, but He is also a God of justice. The Bible says, whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed. God will give people a chance to accept Him, but eventually, He gives up on them, if they absolutely will not accept Him, so He doesn't have a problem with the exercise of justice.

I think only the security officer can answer for what she felt and experienced in that moment. As for your question, it isn't unprecedented for God to protect the lives of others through the killing of the one causing the destruction. I don't think He enjoys it by any stretch of the imagination and I don't claim to understand the way He does things or why He makes the decisions He does. I just know I trust Him.

  • I don't think that God, assuming that he exists, would have even bothered. He never seems to care about the deaths of the other billions of people who have been murdered or died in natural disasters. I wouldn't say that she is delusional, just, as you said, falling back on prior police training.

    I don't get your dilemma.

Surely you know that eyewitness accounts are notoriously unreliable.

Here we are talking about a witness and her account of her feelings.

If she says that Ron Paul was the gunman, but DNA testing, video tapes, and other witnesses prove otherwise, did she see Ron Paul. Of course, not.

In this case, she says she felt GOD but the real world offers no possible physical evidence that she could have. Did she feel GOD, of course not.

what does this matter to you anyway...

what God does is his business!

the holy spirit does move in miraculous ways...

so you and those other atheist can just take a chill pill.

you really need to look at your facts before asking a question and get things straight with God, he is the way the truth and the life no one comes the father but by him...

for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life for God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world but be saved through him for whosoever believes in him shall not be condemned but whosoever believeth not in him is condemned already...

She cracked under the pressure. She didn't stop him because God wanted her to, she stopped him because it was her job.

If God was really there inspiring anyone to stop the gunman, I should think he'd have done it before those people were killed...

God has been known to guide arrows to a person's death. Read the OT.

It's like David killing Goliath with a slingshot - David had the training on aiming that sligshot, but God provided him with the victory.

You do your part and you leave the results to God.

I think the time she spent on the range was most of what did it. When I was in the military I was in that type of situation once. You don't really feel weak if you have the training to fight back. It mostly just pisses you off and you do.
