Hi Mate,
I would go with the Intel Core 2 duo proccesor. Right now Intel are coming up with a cheap way to get your money by just modifying older proccesers. the Quad-Core only lets you run 4 differant programs at once which isn't a great upgrade for the price. if your a gaming fan then yes, either the AMD 64x if you are running an ATi Gaming card otherwise choose the Intel Core 2 Duo it will work great with games such as CrYsiS, Battlefield and Quake wars. Although you would need around 2Gb memory and a decent 8 series graphics card.
Hope this helps you

If you are a power gamer or require extremely high computing power, the Athlon 64 FX processors from AMD and the Core 2 Extreme from Intel are made especially for you. They are the most powerful desktop processors available at the moment. Intel also provides the Pentium Extreme Edition processor that is capable of running four threads simultaneously, which is great for multi-tasking and multi-threading situations.

Core 2 Extreme But if you are on a budget intel quad core.If you really have money and a board that could use them because they are used in workstations dual/quad core xeon. OH core 2 Extremes are like 700dollars i think.
