LOUD 07 Jeep Wrangler?

My father in law bought us an 07 Jeep Wrangler and we just drove it from Florida up to Wisconsin. I think we will all suffer permanant hearing loss, it was so terribly loud! The wind sounds like it's coming in at the top of the windshield. Is that normal?? It has a soft top.

Update:

"We" are not too sensitive... the other car I drive is a 1984 VW Rabbit convertible, which is not quiet by any means. I just thought since it's new we could at least maybe hear the radio while we were driving, but if you go over 60 it sounds like there is a shop-vac running. Maybe the top is installed poorly. I obviously checked the latches but I'll have to check the bolts or screws or whatever.

With a soft top, you tend to hear all the outside noise. It's pretty normal for Wranglers to be loud inside...especially when driving on the interstate going 70 or 80 mph. The faster you drive, the louder it'll be. If you don't want to deal with the noise, just buy a hard top for it. That'll run you about $1,000 at cheapest.

yeah, i got a 97 and it's great. If you wanna get a jeep you won't be sorry, I'd go even older if i had the money, get a 70's Cj7 or even a Willy's Cj3a. Those old jeeps are great, but you'll be poring money into them pretty much all the time. If you're on a budget, 90's though early 2000's. If you're gonna drive a jeep, make it a stick, or you're a wimp and as for the new JK's, I don't even consider those jeeps. JEEPS HAVE FOUR DOORS. If you want a mini van, then get one, if you want a jeep, get a real one. JK's are for wimps. The old jeeps are supposed to be very spartan. Lots of utility, not so much on luxury. That's the way it's supposed to be. That's what's so fun about them. Once you get a jeep you'll understand how "it's a jeep thing" is a very true statement. So yeah, get one, you'll love it.

I guess it depends on one's version of "so terribly loud". I drive several vehicles that I own and one of them is an '02 Jeep Wrangler with a soft top. I've driven it cross country (only yesterday drove 1 hour at freeway speeds) and all over the place, and I've never thought it was deafening. As a frame of reference, one of the other cars I have is a Cadillac.

Bottom line is this: Either you're too sensitive to a "rag top" or there is a rag top not re-installed correctly, which could be the reason that

"..wind sounds like it's coming at the top of the windshield..."

Have you checked to be sure that the top two latches are in their down and locked position? Are the cross members bolted in with the torx bolts? Are the side windows zipped up all the way? Is the windshield fully tied in from the sides with the two black torx bolts? In other works, is she tight or are "we" just too sensitive to wind noise? If it's the latter, I suggest you sell it.

Take it to dealer and make sure top is installed properly. Aftermarket companies sell insulation kits for soft tops. If it is real loud you may want the hard top. Jeep is brand new and dealer should fix top if something is wrong with it.

no this is not good,, sound like either your exhaust system has a hole in it somewhere. If its an 07 , i would take it back to JEEP! the longer you wait the more crap they will come up with to say NO!
