Will people ever learn to respect another human being's belief or non-belief?
I've been reading all the questions and answers on faith or the lack of it and it saddens me that we attack each other with the topic of God. If there are those who don't believe and those who do believe - can we all agree to disagree agreeably?

I would love it if we could all have intelligent conversations about religion and non-religion, but I've seen the same questions and answers you have, and it seems unlikely to me--at least, here on R&S. Maybe in a more scholarly group, it could happen.

Not likely.
No matter how many people genuinely would like to just believe what they want in peace, it's natural for people to feel the need to defend their beliefs as well as to attack any idea or belief that questions their own. Most people are so invested in their religious beliefs that to even suggest they could be wrong shakes the entire foundation of their identity and perception of the universe. It scares them to death that everything they've built their entire life around could be wrong, so they do anything they can to maintain the status quo. Fragile thing, the human ego....

I think many people do respect another belief or lack there of.
I believe that a majority of People will be willing to agree to disagree, but in any faith system or cross section of life, you find a few extremeists

I do
freedom of choice
free will
agree to disagree
I view these questions as people seeking knowledge. Most people do.
I this type of question before and got good results from every religion.
Take those 'attacks' with a grain of salt and a shake of the head.

Not in this lifetime. For some reason every religion thinks it's better than all the others. Named religion was responsible for the holy wars back in the 1200's and they didn't settle anything. people died for it then and again during WWII with the persicution of the jews by HItler. Named religion will be the reason for the death of us all and possibly the extintion of all Mankind.
We all get to die in the name of someones GOD. whoo hoo.

since this is a very controversial matter that many people consider as a big part of their lives probably not, at least until there is proof that god is or is not there. i personally get defensive when people attack my beliefs (agnostic/weak atheist) bt i would otherwise generally respect others choices.

Of course we can agree to disagree today , tomorrow and all through next year. This is Yahoo! Answers.

It must be an individual choice, and not all individuals will choose to respect other people, regardless of their belief or non-belief.

I'm sure that by tomorrow morning all of the disrespectful comments will have stopped. I mean, this battle between religions can't go on all night, right?

That would be difficult. Religion is a very personal matter, some took it so hard it become a triggering point for violence.
