1996 dodge dakota?

hello, 1996 dodge dakota, 5 spd manual. seems to not have alot of power. 155000 mi, and i push the gas down the the floor and that same amout of power excists as if i were to lightly press the gas petal. airfilter is good and i ran fuel cleaner though it along with premium. could the engine be shot? also i hear this annoying rattle and i don;t think it is a lifter or rod. when its cold in the morning, i don't hear it. as it warms up, i can. any one have this same problem? i allready put a waterpump on it, and the knocking went away, now its just a rattle.

Update:

i don't think its a egr, doesn't that just put heat into the intake?

you need to check the timing chain and gears in it if they get worn down real bad it throws the timing so far out that it causes a major loss of power, the computer can make up for 6-8 degrees of timing loss but no more than that,if the chain and gears are bad it will make it loose power real bad,i don't think it would be the engine worn out on it at 155 k those lasted well beyond that and then some, but i have replaced a lot of chains and gears and timing belts on the ones that has them,at 150 k they should be replaced, most went out before that,id at least check it,id say your going to find a lot of wear on it,and that may be the noise your hearing also, the slack in it,good luck.

it could well be your catilitic converter or your egr valve. i had a 94 dakota that lost power while on a trip. i had to punch a hole in the converter to make it back home. the heat backed up so hot it burned out the egr valve. check the exhust pressure if it's weak and hot then you know what good luck, jack ravencrow

you need to have the capacity to stick to the wires below the hood that run off the blower motor and that they'll finally end up connecting to the resistor assembly. What i might probable do on your case is flow to a huge do it your self vehicle wreckers and take the resistor and harness from a vehicle like yours , plus i might grab a spare resistor and blower motor mutually as i became there. wish that facilitates and better of success.by the way they shouldn't cost you greater then 20 or 40 greenbacks tops for the factors.

sound like a catalytic converter has broke internally as full size dodge rams had this trouble also resulting in lost power to a point where you cannot go over 35 mph . aftermarket converters are cheaper than OEM factory ones .

the cold start rattle is normal with 150k. change the fuel filter the cleaner won't work if it can't get through the filter
