myths and folklore?
What, that you have heard of, would happen to be the most interesting, and maybe a favorite of yours?
And i would like, if you answer this question if you could tell me the myth/legend/folklore. or you may just give me a site where i sould read it.
I love reading myths and folklore and things that have to do with them. so this is just a curiosity question.

the myth of medusa and perseus. Perseus could only look at medusa through his MIRROR and then he could see her without turning to stone.
Medusa was the world. We see the world, and we start believing it's real and we TURN TO STONE...meaning we stop focusing on rising to a higher level of consciousness. the mirror of perseus is a way of putting a psychological SOMETHING between ourselves and the world.

Here's an urban legend...
One April night my brother went to his Senior Prom, of course he was dateless and went with his best friend. After the prom they went out looking for mischivious things to do i.e. rolling, forking a yard, and etc. But when they crossed the brigde over the lake, they saw a young girl about their age. Who was dressed in an evening gown and soaking wet. REalizing that the girl might need some help my brother stopped and asked her if she needed anything. She told him that she needed a ride home. So the two drove her home. When they pulled up in front of the house the girl didn't feel comfortable going to the door and knocking. So she sent the two boys to go do it.
An old man answered the door. My brother told the man that there was some girl in the back of his car who said that she lived at this address. The man sighed then told the boys that he had a daughter that was going to her senior prom with her boyfriend when the car suddenly lost control and went into the nearby lake. They both drowned. And every year since then on the night of the Prom young men come to the door telling him that there is a young girl who told them to bring her to this address.
Bewildered, my brother and his friend walked back to the car only to find the back seat empty. But there was a wet spot in the place where she sat.

For me the most interesting is how themes occur in cultures that are so varied and distant from each other - Navajo mythology has themes in common with Greek myth, stuff like that. I don't know of any sites, but you should read "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell. If you Google that you will probably find lots of sites. It's really fascinating.

I love the King Arthur legend.
Among many others.
The King Arthur legend attracted me after I read a series based on the legend. It is really interesting how Camalot came to be and then ended.
If you want to read up on it a little here is a site for it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Arthur
But I found out about the legend by reading books, which has a lot more info.

Some of the ones I read in Mythology class were all the creation myths from different nations. But my favorite is probably Beowulf, L'Morte De Arthur, or Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is the basic hero's tale. Beowulf and L'Morte De Arthur are classics. There are some good foketale book out there. Check your library or bookstore.

www.snopes.com is an excellent source of myths, urban legends, and folklore. They research myths and stories and determine their status (true, false, etc...).
Other than that, there are other scattered sites around on the web, and it just takes some searching to find them. Good luck :)

I always liked the story of "Ickey Bob Crane". Guess Tim Burton did also because he made "Sleepy Hollow." Which is great because it has Johnny Depp in it and I love To watch him. This man has more tallent then most people have in their little fingers!!
