  • I accidentally used sweetened condensed milk instead of evaporated milk while making fudge. Help!?

Duh. I haven't added the marshmallow fluff or chocolate but I hate to waste all that sugar and butter. Anything else I can do with it?

  • DNS server errors in Windows 8?

I just installed a new modem and wifi router, which are working fine with a bunch of different machines. But my Toshiba Satellite running Windows 8 keeps giving me DNS server errors (specifically "Your DNS server might be unavailable") when I try to load certain pages. For example. I got here fine, but if I try to go to www.yahoo.com, I get "This page can't be displayed." From poking around the internet it seems like this is fixable but I keep getting the message when I try to figure out how to do it. Any thoughts?

  • How do I remove a SIM card from an LG G2?

We had an LG G2 from Sprint that was defective. After a lot of running around they finally agreed to replace it (with a 'certified used' phone, but they told me it would not come with a SIM card so I needed to remove the one from the original phone. Apparently we were supposed to get a tool to open the SIM tray but I don't think we did and we didn't keep the old packaging. Is there a way to open it without the tool? I have a straight pin that I think is small enough but I really don't want to break the stupid thing at this point....

FYI when I try to activate the new one, it asks me if I want to use the SIM card that came with it, and gives a number, so could it have one anyway? Or is that just from whoever had it before?

  • Should I be worried that everyone thinks I'm eligible for Medicare?

I keep getting mailings from a variety of insurance sources, including my own current company, that say I am almost 65 and coming up on my eligibility for Medicare - it's apparently in 3 months now. However, in reality I won't be eligible for Medicare for 15 more year. Should I be concerned? Is there anything that can mess anything up for me (particularly my health insurance)? (And this has been going on since early last summer, so it has nothing to do with Obamacare.) Is there someone I should call?

  • How can I clean my ipod's charging slot?

Okay, I'm an idiot. I forgot one of those Cadbury eggs in my backpack with my ipod and when it melted, the ipod fell through the wrapper and it got chocolate and nougat into the charging slot. It was working right when I discovered it. I set up upright in a warm area hoping the goo would melt out but apparently there is still some in there. Is there a way to clean it so I can use it again?

  • Disc drive is stuck - any ideas?

My disc drive on my Toshiba laptop is stuck. It's been temperamental since I watched a movie in my bedroom (no, not porn.) I checked it and nothing at all is caught in it, but it will only open about 1/8 of an inch. I don't want to force it open and can't find any other way to get in - does anyone have an idea for me?

  • Transferring photos from phone to computer?

I used to use a LG rumor touch, but recently got a samsung galaxy s2. I want to transfer the pix from the old phone to either the new phone or my computer. They are not on a memory card. I tried just transferring them with windows photo viewer and got 106 empty files, then some kind of prompt about using iCloud came up - but it said I need to set up iCloud on the phone, and it's not an option under settings. Any ideas?

  • What"s the name of this movie?

This movie came out about 10 years ago, I suppose. It's about a 'rag-tag' bunch of kids who participate in some kind of car race - maybe solar cars? And I think it's set in Australia - or else Arizona. Any ideas at all?

  • How do you add a .jpg to a google docs presentation?

I'm not an idiot, really, but I can't figure it out. I'm trying to put some scanned photos into a Google Docs presentation. The size isn't an issue (1.5 MB, and the limit is 2 MB) and it's a .jpg, so why won't it load? All it says is that it can't be uploaded, with no other explanation... any ideas?

  • Is it okay to say 'bless you' when a Muslim person sneezes?

I just started working at an elementary school which has a large population of Somali immigrants, who are mainly Muslim. The kids I work with are kindergarteners, so not theologically sophisticated, and they also have a lot of colds in the classroom. When one of them sneezes my automatic response is to say 'Bless you' or 'Gesundheit,' but is this culturally insensitive? What would I say? It feels wrong not to say something....

  • Can anyone help me fix a deadbolt lock?

My back door is a big, glass monstrosity with a built-in deadbolt. To open the deadbolt you have to unlock the door and push the handle down. It doesn't do anything until the handle is pushed down. Well, I was trying to lock it after bringing the dog in and felt something slip. I opened the door and worked the lock to see if there was something amiss and now the deadbolt is stuck. With the door open. So I can't shut my back door at all. I took the handle off but don't see anything that could help me with it. Any suggestions?

  • Did I wreck my batteries?

I have several AA rechargeable batteries. I managed to get everything together at the same time (difficult for me) and put them all in chargers and plugged them in. Then I left them that way for maybe a month. Now my mouse needs batteries and none of them work. Are you not supposed to leave them plugged in?

  • What kind of worms could these be?

My 11 year old daughter came home and showed me what I had thought was a mosquito bite on her leg. She said while she was watching a softball game it was really itchy, she scratched it, and two small white worms came out. She said she also saw one climbing around on her other leg. WHAT THE HECK COULD THIS BE? We put peroxide on the bite-looking thing on her leg but otherwise don't know what to do.

She was swimming in a lake in northern Minnesota about 2 weeks ago. Otherwise I have no idea where this could have come from. She has no other symptoms.

    Any ideas?

  • My dog may have been poisoned?

My dog ate most of a philodendron plant last Saturday. I didn't make the connection until just now but she's acting sick. She's about 80 pounds so a big girl. She was acting okay this weekend, a little quiet. But now she's not really eating or anything. I will obviously call the vet first thing in the morning but is there anything I can do now?

  • How to fix a portable DVD player?

I have a cheap portable DVD player that isn't worth having fixed professionally but maybe it's something I could do myself. It's an Insignia, and it all of a sudden stopped recognizing when a DVD is put into it - it runs for a while then says "no disk." I've tried using a CD-cleaning disk which didn't help. Is there anything else I could try? I'm not that worried about wrecking it, since it's pretty much just a paperweight at this point anyway, but I'd be pretty happy if it would work.

  • Birthday present for horse person?

My sister just bought a horse (draft horse if that matters) and I'd like to get her something for her birthday that would be fun for someone who owns a horse to get. I'm thinking around $25. We're both in our 40's, if that makes any difference. I saw some holders that strap onto your boot to hold cell phones and stuff - would that be nice? Or lame?

  • How can I remove hair dye from a hardwood floor?

The floor was refinished a couple of years ago and sealed with polyurethane. I was dying my daughter's hair (dark red, of course) and dripped some on the floor, which now seems stained. Is there anything I can do to get it up? I've tried water, of course, and also a Clorox wipe.

Let me know - I think time is of the essence!

  • How to eliminate phone static caused by wireless internet?

I have DSL through the phone company. I have filters on all my phone jacks. Periodically the phones get really staticky. If I disconnect the wireless internet adaptor it goes away, but then no wireless internet... With my old computer I could restart the modem and it would go away (thereby showing that the filters are not defective, which is the only suggestion I get from the phone company.)It would come back after a month or so. My new computer doesn't have the "restart modem" option. It's getting truly annoying. One of our two phones doesn't work at all right now. What can I do to get rid of the static? I'm wondering if I just should get a new wireless adaptor....
