Did you ever support PETA? What changed your mind?

As a kid I was really interested in PETA until we had a bunch of shark attacks down here (Florida). PETA rented a bunch of billboard signs and put up pictures of sharks being tortured and sharks biting people, then theme of the campaign was that sharks were just fighting back for what we did to them. At 12 years old this mortified me and Ive been against them ever since.

I respect PETA. Every organization has its whackos or whatever you would like to call them. But they are the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. It includes people too because we are animals. (homo sapiens)

Sharks are curious and intelligent beings. They are predators. How else can they investigate? They bite. We as people should know this and stay away from them. We do that by educating ourselves as to when they are likely to be out. I hear this information everytime I go to the beach. Read a newspaper. Listen to the radio. Talk to people that know.

    It's not difficult.

How is torturing an animal going to do any good? Those people have rocks in their head. There is no gray matter there.

Growing up I thought PETA must be great because it stood up for animals. As I started to learn about things they would do like preferring to euthanize animals rather than have them be "OWNED" by a loving home and all the other psycho things they do, I changed my mind.

I think the basic idea of PETA is a good one, I mean, animals need all advocates they can get but I don't think they are really advocates for animals in the sense that they have the animal's best interest in mind.

I use to until one of PETA's people started using violence to get theire point across . It was at a rally and some by stander was eating a burger when this girl started yelling about how the cow was tortured before being slaughtered . The guy just kept eating and ther girl got so mad at his disinterest she slapped the burger out of his hand and started a fight with him . PETA treated her like a hero . I was glad when she went to jail . After that I was totally against them .

When I read stories about animal abuse in the paper or see them on the news (We've had some really horrendous ones in Maine recently) I become much nastier than any PETA member on crack. In the cold light of reason, however, which I hope is my usual state--They go WAAAAAAY too far.

I think that animals should be treated with love and gentleness.

I believe in being ethical and moral in the treatment of all animals.

I don't really know a lot about PETA, so I plead ignorance. Wise men shouldn't speak of things that they know nothing about.

i never supported them. I support Audubon (who support deer hunting!) and i tried supporting other nature ppl but they kept sending me "free gifts" on glossy paper so i stopped. i also suppert The Oasis for birds (a sanctuary) http://www.the-oasis.org/

PETA do some good work exposing animal cruelty in the food industry, but their solution to this is not to reform the food industry or even to support organic-type meat, but to tell everyone to be a vegetarian!

I buy cage-free eggs and i would love it if farm subsidies only went to farms that treated animals with some decency before killing them. PETA can accomplish that -- but instead they tell me i -- and EVERY america -- should be vegetarian!

that might be better for the enviroment, but if the animals weren't raised for food they'd be endagered right now! Look up Herritage Turkeys (then buy one!). they are raised naturally and humanely and they would be extinct if you don't buy them. That's the solution -- and PETA and those wierdos could have workd toward it -- instead they want everyone to be vegetarians!

I grew up in NYC and i love those horse-carriage rides around central park. nice to see some horses in the city. PETA thinks the horses are treated badly (and they might be) and their solution is not to treat the horses better -- but to get rid of horses all together!

i think there should be a test and a license for anyone who wants a cocatoo, african grey, or larger bird. PETA wants to make it illegal to sell mccaws! with birds declining in nature, they want to make their numbers decline as pets too??

if you leave it to PETA, they will eliminate all animal cruelty -- be eliminating ALL ANIMALS.

i'm a liberal....and not a PETA supporter.... i do no longer think of political association has something to do with even though if or no longer you settle with the existence of PETA. we ought to go removed from perpetuating generalizations approximately one yet another... as an occasion... i'm a liberal socially... I help some socialized recommendations like regularly occurring healthcare, public libraries, fire departments, and faculties...i think of we ought to continually take care of our environment from vast businesses....yet might you nevertheless call me a liberal if I instructed you that I own 5 distinctive rifles and handguns.., and that i flow searching basically approximately each and every weekend. might you think of i became a liberal in case you observed me on the gunshow ? might you call me a liberal if I reported that i think of partial beginning/overdue term abortion is ill and can be outlawed ? might you nevertheless think of i became a liberal if I reported we ought to continually extensively reform or elliminate federal guidance courses like welfare ? What if I instructed you that I voted for Bush in 2000....yet no longer in 2004...might I nevertheless be a liberal ? A liberal is somebody disagrees with a conservative, and a conservative is somebody who disagrees with a liberal.... sound approximately precise ? those are immaginary obstacles perpetrated by politicians... all of them declare to be uniters, in spite of the shown fact that it is of their appropriate interest to devide us into neat little communities so it is greater handy for them to confirm what we'd want to hearken to. i understand countless Republicans that are "tree huggers" and vegitarians...it would not lead them to any much less Republican.

Picture yourself instead of the shark. You're walking around the mall, and you buy a taco in the food court. You take 1 bite, and suddenly a couple of big guys grab you, and hold you under water. While they're doing this, they're poking you with sharp objects and shouting at you.

    Surely that would suck.

No. PETA is little better than a terrorist group, and they use terror tactics and violence to get their message across. They also are big on punishing people who have nothing to do with their cause. They disgust me.

    Source(s): Personal experience with PETA.
