Who is St. Lourdes, and what is her importance?
I was named after a certain Saint, however, I don't really know much about her can you help....
My mom was going through a horrible labor and the chaplin statue saint was that of St. Lourdes.... My grandparents were asked by the doctors to begin to think of which needed to be saved, their daughter's life, or that of their new born granddaughter (myself) Well, my grandparents ran to the hospital chaplin and prayed for the salvation of both and not one over the other and if she would save us, that she promised, I would forever keep her name, it is now my middle name.... After hours of intense labor, I was born and my mom was okay.... 21 years later and out of the Catholism to which I was raised I want to know if or what is she the patron saint of?
Thanks for all your help.... Please answer if you know, and not just for the points.... I really want to know, what if anything I personally owe to her in my grandparents personal promise to her.

Saint Bernadette of Lourdes. She is the saint over suffering people and the sick. Her body is still completly perfect. She had visions of Mary and found a spring that has healing powers. She is my patrone saint.

According to the "Dictionary of First Names":
"Lourdes [Venus symbol] (Spanish) Religious name, from the place in southern France where a young girl had visions of the Virgin Mary in 1858."
You find it is a common name especially in Spanish families and is named after the place. For more information have a look at the Lourdes official website and it will give you details of Lourdes the area and St Bernadette http://www.lourdes-france.org/index.php?goto_centr...

It's not St. Lourdes- It's Bernadette of Lourdes. Lourdes is a place in southern France where Mary appeared to a peasant girl names Bernadette in a series of apparitions. Lourdes has now become a pilgrimage shrine where millions of Catholics visit each year, many of them praying or hoping for illnesses of both their body and spirit.
Does that help? So the Saint that statue was dedicated to was probably Our Lady of Lourdes.
Here's a site where you can get more info.
God bless!

Lourdes is not a patron Saint. Lourdes is city in France, where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to a little girl named Bernadette, she is a Saint. Link on to Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, web cam at Lourdes, France and read all about it. You have a beautiful name and a wonderful Roman Catholic background. Please find it in your heart to return to your grandparents faith.
God bless us all...

Lourdes is a village in France where a grotto holds the statue of the Virgin who supposedly performs miracles. The village is dedicated to a young girl named Bernadette who saw a vision of the Virgin Mary long ago. In French, it's pronounced "Lourd". I hope I've helped.

I don't believe that there is a "St. Lourdes" dear. Lourdes is a PLACE...a place where the Blessed Virgin Mary (Our Lady of Lourdes) revealed herself to a French peasant girl named Bernadette.

lourdes was the hometown of saint bernadette - the most important catholic saint of the nineteenth century, and the most important french saint since joan of arc.
bernadette gave the catholics their dogma of the immaculate conception, and also played an important role in confirming papal infallibility.
before bernadette's visions lourdes was an occitan backwater of no religious or historical importance. it now has the second highest number of hotels of any french town (after paris).
