Is it automatically racist for a black person to endorse another black person?

Obviously I'm addressing the issue of Oprah being characterized as racist for her support of Obama. Since she has never endorsed any of the other black candidates for president and articulates only the issues, I am wondering why her support has been characterized as racist. I've even heard mention that she only supports black Chicagoans; another fallacy given that Jesse Jackson operates out of Chicago.

Some of the same posters accusing her are the same ones who resent being called racist because of their views on immigration. If your views are solely about the issues then why can't hers be? In 2007, blacks are so diverse now that opinions vary just as widely as anyone elses. Whites vote for blacks, blacks vote for whites, whites vote for whites and blacks vote for blacks and none of it is about race. So I ask anyone, especially those of you pointing the finger, why can't Oprah endorse the candidate of her choice without this accusation?

It is not racist by any means. If the decision to endorse or back anyone up is based just on the color or race then yes. We don't know that is why she is endorsing him. Of course Oprah is much too smart to do something like that just to increase our chances of having an African-American President.

I do think there are A LOT of people out there who do base their uneducated decisions this way. They choose based on race, gender, or color. Unfortunately these are the same ones who are making the accusations.

In my opinion, I'd consider them White washed because that has been their main influence if they're the token black in their circle. Maybe the token grew up in a predominately white area and those are the only friends they had access to. Now, people can take whitewashed offensively all they like, but that's what you call it. In any case, I never like seeing any "token" person in a group of whites, blacks, asains, hispanics, etc. I like it better when I see a diverse group of friends. I think it's awesome. But I don't find it racist or offensive for us to call someone who is the ONLY black in their social scene whitewashed. And no one says kissing up to whitey?? That makes no sense. And it's not necessarily a "disgrace", it's just unfortunate to see. Having a min. of Black friends doesn't count u as a sell-out. This is all just matter of opinion

Obama is considered racist by most because of a book he wrote before entering politics and because he belongs to a racist church. So she is seen as supporting a racist, and it follows that a non-racist would not support a racist.

There is also the crowd that feels hurt that Oprah didn't support Hillary, since she is famous for (and well loved for) her support of women.

i think Oprah endorsed Obama b/c of their shared views on inner city aide. As far as blacks and diverse opinions, i think thats true of other groups too, especially whites. Where you see not the biggest thing dividing us being white or black but rather green.

Its a silly thing to suggest racism. Obviously some deluded neocon sitting watching FauxNews again.

Only a dimwit would accuse Oprah of racism on her support for Obama. Regardless, these people who are accusing her of racism wouldn't vote for Obama anyways. Most likely these accusers will be voting for some bible thumper like Huckabee.
