What method do you use to perform backups?
Our tape drive has just failed for the 6th time in less than a year, the problem is that it is no longer covered under the Dell warranty. We dont want to spen $600 every couple months to keep the tape backup going. our current backups are just over 13gb and growing.
I have thought about the following options:
rotate removeable hard drives
offsite data service
Do you have any other ways to backup? what is your opinion?

1) Get a DVD burner and back-up to the DVD (4.5GB per DVD).
2) Get a 500GB External Hard Drive (Maxtor) and back-up there.
3) Buy a 12Gb Flash Drive and back-up there.
DVD back-up will last a few years (assume around 5 years) if stored properly. External HD will last a long time (ours is still running after 4 years and looks like it could go for another 4 years) and Flash Drive is good in size and storage, but cost wise is more expensive in the long run.

I have a 232 GB LaCie hard drive connected to my Mac and use the SuperDuper utility to automatically back everything up weekly in the wee hours alternating between two backup images. The backup "sparseimages" are each less than 35 GB.
