HDTV is amazing! I watch the Discovery HD channel almost all the time... whenever anything remotely interesting is on... and I hardly watched it before having HD. The picture just makes you feel like you are really there. Planet Earth in HD was the single most amazing thing I've ever seen on TV, and I don't think I would feel as strongly about it had I watched it in SD. I also actually like watching sports on TV now. Before I really only liked watching sports in person, but now watching them in HD makes me feel like I'm on the field... it's almost better than being there!

Honestly, anyone who says that they can't tell the difference between HD and SD has not watched or is jealous they don't have it. They say they don't think it would change their television watching habits because they haven't experienced how HD brings your television to life, making it far more entertaining, interactive, and engaging.

Well, it's much more clear for one thing. And honestly I can't go back to watching SD channels because some SD channels trim off the edges of the picture. Most of the time I don't see the show rating (TV PG, TV 14 . . . etc.). In any case I'm glad I own an HDTV. I watch a LOT of shows: -

House M.D., Prison Break, Grey's Anatomy, Heroes, Chuck . . . etc. And I have all of my local channels in HD and watching these shows in HD is just incredible. I used to mess with the antenna when I used to own an SDTV because it would get a little blurry and all but now no more of that. I highly recommend that you get an HDTV because once you own an HDTV you won't be disappointed. Besides, it's not like you have a choice I mean in February 19 2009 all TV broadcasts will be digital and to recieve digital channels you will need either an HDTV or a reciever. Most people will eventually upgrade their TV to HD. Good luck in deciding buddy!

Oh, also if you do plan to purchase an HDTV get them now while there is a sale going on. And if you're not ready to make the switch get them next year, I'm sure they'll be a lot cheaper by then.

I don't own one. My sister does and we also have one at work. It has not changed my viewing habits but It has changed my work. I work for cable. I get customers calling in who have gotten an HDTV because of what the sells person at the store told them That they have to have an HDTV to be able to watch TV in a year. That is bologna.

Starting in 2009, only digital TV signals will be transmitted. If you see a station like CBS on cable or a satellite company, your TV will work just like it always has.

But, if you have a standard TV set (also called analog) with rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna, Congress may provide you a subsidy to buy a converter box.

I am only saying this to help people that might be reading this see that they don't have to buy an HDTV.

As for how nice they are. Yes they are nice but also they can not be worth the price.

More than that look at what is out there. There are some brands that have bad reps. I was looking up info on my Magnavox TV. Trying to find a replacement remote. When I saw how poor the customer service is. Mostly when dealing with HDTV.

Owning an HD TV would never change my life as much as my work has.

I have a 42 inch HDTV. It's nice and has a beautiful clear picture when you watch the few HDTV channels that are offered. Watching movies is better in HD. The few video games that I play are great. No, it really has not changed my television viewing habits. After the newness wears off of having a HDTV it's pretty much back to the regular routine. They are nice to have but after owning one I sometimes wonder if I should have waited until more HD listings are standard and not extra. I still have all those channels and not much to watch. So for anyone thinking of plunking down big bucks for an HD, ..... wait two or three years.

I no longer eat or drink anything that cannot be delivered to my couch. I defecate in a bucket. I do not bathe at all.

I use picture-in-picture to watch a minimum of two shows at any time, and am constantly changing channels so I can loosely follow along with a dozen or so. Nobody else can tolerate this. Or the smell. Screw them.

To see the picture better, I have turned off all the lights and shuttered the windows. I can no longer tolerate the light of day and suffer from a persistent vitamin D deficiency. My doctor was concerned about this, but since I no longer leave my house (or even my living room) I don't have to listen to him any more.

To avoid having to sleep I have been taking a constant stream of amphetamines. Still it kind of sneaks up on me. Since all I dream about is HDTV, it is sometimes hard to tell if I'm awake or asleep anyway except that my dreams have more re-runs.

All in all, I'd say I'm better off. I'm trying to claim disability so my boss can't fire me and I'll be able to afford the next iteration of television technology. Looking forward to it!

I do not own an HDTV but there is a big screen TV bought nearly five years ago that has HDTV on top. The picture is a lot more sharper than others and although it is nearly $2000, it is highly worth it! When I watch a sports program, what I'm watching is if I'm actually at the game (Actually if I had front row seats)! If I watch a movie, it looks like I am actually sitting at a cinema!

havin HDTV hasnt really changed my habit of watching TV. i thought that having a HDTV would be this awsome thing but its not that great. i mean the HDTV channels are great and everything looks better than standard channels but yet sometimes u get to see features on a person or actor u didnt see in standard TV like piples, scars, etc and its disturbing. i really dont watch a lot of TV and when i do is just specific shows and thats it. Video games havent changed at all either, all the systems cost a lot of money plus all the accesories cost an arm and a leg, but i still play only like twice a month or not even at all because computers have taken more of my time. also there is other stuff that is more entertaining then watching TV, i still have hobbies i dont get sucked in by just watching TV. and like other people have mention there arent that many HD channels. matter of fact i have an HDTV but i am using a high definition antenna to get digital channels and for every channel you have to adjust to get the picture but man that is very agrivating because there is still a lot of interference like with the regular atennas and that another reason is pointless to have an HDTV if you dont use it that often, yet i love my TV, just because it has the capability of HD.

If I had a choice between a 1080i show that I don't really care for vs. a 480i program that I like a lot I would watch the 480i program. However, if I somewhat like the 480i program I would be more likely to watch teh 1080i show.

Gaming with my 360 is a lot more fun, can't wait until christmas because then I will have surround sound headphones and so I shall have a more complete HDTV experiance. Surround sound kicksass but my old speakers broke (headphones would be better because they don't disturb others, and I can hear more detailed objects, but my ears might get warm).

I have a Sony Bravia 46" 3LCD Rear-Projection 1080p HDTV, and is kickass. However, I have yet to use 1080p content on it (have used 1080i, but that is because my 360 can't do HDMI due to age of the console (RROD plz!) and so I am stuck with component connection, however a 30 FPS difference is not too much to complain about, if it really is that much of a bother I might as well go to 720p because 360 upscales the games from 720p to 1080i/p and does it beautifully). Widescreen is so awesome, I feel more intune to the game than full screen!

I am an HDTV junkie, my habits have changed for the better, I can see clearly now. Everything should be in HD, I have just about everthing in HD, but I need more channels and movies WOW. Xbox360 and PS3 picture and sound wow. Regular non HD programing is a thing of the past. I can't wait till my 8yr old grows up and buys a home and I can buy her a new tv, by then HD will be a thing of the past. What is next?
