Should I make a cover letter and resume for a bank teller position?

I'm applying for a job as a bank teller and this is basically the first real job I'm applying for since my job as a cashier. I knew the manager at the grocery store so it was really no problem at the time. Now, I need to apply for the job and go through the process. The jobs qualifications are only a high school diploma and a little experience handling cash and customer service. Should I make a cover letter and resume? I don't want to look unprofessional but, than again I don't want to over do it. Oh, and when going in to get the application should I dress in a business suit or just go in dressed casually?

Do both a resume and a cover letter. Don't wear a full suit but slacks and a nice button down shirt.

Yes you should type a a good resume and a cover letter and that is the proper way to send a resume. Dress in a suit, shoe polished , hair neatly trimmed and just be well groomed.

I've only worked for two big Oil Companies and a resume and a cover sheet got me both jobs The first job I was still in college and I went to work for one company that was freeze for hiring and they really made some very good remarks about my resume and cover sheet, guess what they made a position for me. So take that resume, cover sheet and dress to be hired, not overdressed but a nice suit and tie, be well groomed and you'll be considered as one of the applications they will call in for a interview.

You can never be too "Professional" - Go with a Resume & Cover letter.

If you need assistance the site below has some good examples of resume cover letters.

Your professionalism will pay off as it will give you the "competitive" advantage you need in today's job market.

    Dress....

Call the bank or visit it and see what everyone else is wearing. Are the other tellers dressed professionally?

You can't go wrong with a tie.

You should definitely make a cover letter and resume for this position. Even if it's not "required" it's definitely going to make you look good, and no having one could possibly make you look bad. A resume and cover letter isn't "over doing it" for even an entry level position in a more professional environment like a bank.

For the interview how about meeting in the middle of a suit and dressing casually? A nice button down shirt and a tie would be a good option.

I would say if you are going to submit a resume, then the cover letter is a must. Just keep it brief and to the point. Show them you know how it's done..one day you might be moving up!

Dress for the position. What do bank tellers wear? Dress like they do.

  • Definitely go with a cover letter and resume. They will aprreciate the effort and take you seriously. When you are young, it is hard for people to take you seriously because you have less experience. In this case, you would be better off to over do it than under do it. It will make you stand out.

Also, dress business, not casual. First impressions are everything!!

Opinions will vary, but I think you should show up to get the application dressed as though you had the job--good sign you get the appropriate level of dress for the job.

You will have an application to fill out, but I see no downside in bringing in a one-page resume and cover letter--that you "get" that can be done may set you ahead of some who don't "want to bother."

This is not like coming in a suit to a pool party--a bit extra is probably a plus for you.

    Good luck!

Of course! But don't over do it. I know I would appreciate a little back up information before I would hire anybody. You do have experience handling cash and performing customer service so you should give proof that you are qualified for the job. And about the clothes.... you should not wear a suit but something dressy. Make sure you are not too casual. Maybe you could wear a pair of slacks and a dressy button down shirt. Don't forget a tie either! Good luck! I hope you get the job!

I believe you should look your best when you go anywhere looking for a job. You should always do a cover letter and resume no matter what you are applying for. It would be nice after you get the interview to do a followup letter and let them know you appreciated them taking the time for you.
