How many times can I expect my tattoo to peel?

I got my tattoo a week ago and it's already peeled once and i'm wondering if it will peel a few more times or not,. or is it just up in the air since they all heal differently?

Please do not answer if you are going to tell me you don't like tattoos. I could care less if you don't. There is no need in telling me your personal feelings on then as it will not change my opinion.

Update:

OMG what a great answer...put lotion on it...

holy f***

i'm using aquaphor to keep it moist like any intelligent person.

Update 2:

I got GIR from inavder zim covered in blood on my upper left arm :D

Update 3:

Cool thanks everyone!!!

can't wait until it's 100% healed

XD

    My Tattoo Is Peeling

You need to keep it moist all the time. You don't want to keep peeling it, that is very bad.

Get a lotion like H2Ocean Tattoo or Tattoo Goo lotion. DO NOT use Vaseline or any other petroleum based products.

    Some aftercare instructions:

Remove bandage in 1 to 2 hours. If the bandage sticks to the skin, soak the area with cold water until the bandage loosens, then remove carefully. Wash tattoo carefully with cold water, gently applying antibacterial soap with fingers to remove all surface blood. Rinse with cold water, pat dry with a clean towel and air-dry for approx. 15 minutes.

After cleaning, gently apply a thin layer of OINTMENT or SALVE sparingly. Repeat 3 or 4 times a day as needed for the next 2 to 3 days. Suggested: Ink Fixx Ointment, Tattoo Goo Salve

After tattoo is 2 to 3 days old, it is suggested you switch to using LOTION. Suggested: Ink Fixx Lotion, Tattoo Goo Lotion.

Salves and Lotions keep your tattoo from drying and the skin areas soft and moist. Always apply sparingly. Too much prevents the skin/tattoo from breathing.

The new tattoo should be exposed to the air as much as possible. The more exposure, the faster it will heal.

    * DO NOT re-bandage the tattoo

    * DO NOT apply Vaseline, lanolin or petroleum based products

    * DO NOT apply alcohol

    * DO NOT rub, scratch or pick at the tattoo

    * DO NOT expose to direct sunlight, swim or soak in sauna, steam bath or bathtub for two weeks.

    * DO NOT share ointments or salves with ANYONE

Avoiding sunlight is recommended for the optimal life of the tattoo.

Swoon. I love Gir!!!! Just had to say that. I just got a tattoo 2 weeks ago (Kirby and Meta Knight, yeah I am a huge geek) and it just stopped peeling as far as I can tell. Parts of it may peel at different rates so it's probably close to being healed, but just wait a bit longer to make sure. :)

Everyone heals differently. All of mine peeled twice. Nice choice of tattoos btw. I was thinking of getting Gir for my next one.

I think it may depend on the location, as one of mine peeled for about a week but the one on my boob peeled several days longer. And let's all ignore the ******* that didn't read the part about not offering opinions! LMAO

I have two tattoos. Mine were kinda small and they each peeled for about 3-5 days. Just keep putting lotion or neosporin on it until it seems like it stopped.

    don't listen to Mr. Carto....

NEVER use vasoline OR lotion on your ink.

as far as peeling, every tattoo is different, everyone's skin heals different. i use vitamin A & D on mine (they still look great years later) for a weekish (maybe 2). it will still peel but won't itch as much but you have to let it get air & dry out.

good luck! what did you get & where?

it really depends on the person. i usually peal once about a week after getting the tattoo. sometimes i will peal again but very lightly.

It will keep peeling until it reaches the bone....Tattoos suck a$$, and give you aids...there! Oh, and they just look great when you're all wrinkled and old.
