Why do the yanks copy the best films and ruin them?

I guess there are a few older ones The Italian Job, (I hate to say it Taxi originally a French film) and now 28 Days Later, although they call it I am Legend?

Update:

AND WHAT ABOUT THE ENIGMA DECODING MACHINE!!!

When they can alter history - WW2, which they won singlehanded, and the War of Independance, which they won against an inept incompetent and brutal British army and with no French help whatsoever, not to mention woeful distortions of world history such as Braveheart, then corrupting a few good movies so Americans can feel that they still have something to offer the world is wee buns. It's an inferiority complex, along the lines of a small penis.

"I Am Legend" is loosely based on Richard Matheson's novel, which was published in 1954. This movie is the third of four versions.

So, "28 Days Later" copied "I Am Legend" (the novel)~not the other way around, as you put it. I'm not going to argue versions, but I did want to correct that misconception. The "28 Days" movies are not new ideas, just reworked ones. Many films have been inspired by Matheson's works.

The four versions of "I Am Legend" are "The Last Man on Earth", starring Vincent Price; "The Omega Man", starring Charlton Heston; "I Am Legend", starring Will Smith; and "I Am Omega", starring Mark Dacascos.

I'll readily admit that the U.S. version of "Village of the Damned" was dreadful. The original is quite good without relying on gore and the action-type of scenes that ruin the remake.

28 Days Later is about Zombies and the remaining survivors in and around England and the rest of the world.

I Am Legend is a book by Robert Matheson and is about Vampires and the only human left on the planet. They are two different stories and have nothing to do with eachother.

Similar in some ways yes, but still two different stories!

Did you just said Yanks? Dude as a Yank from the West, were is your "British Movies Studios"? Do you guys have one? We have the Warner Brothers,Paramount Pictures,DreamWorks,Universal, & so on. What about you guys? If you Red Coats can write scripts & film better movies like ours, proof it!

About 28 Days Later, did you know it is a comic book? It is not the writers fault. It is the "Director" fault.

P.S. Our Navy Seals are better then your SAS.

I Am Legend was not a rip off of 28 Days Later. It's based off of a 1954 science fiction novel by Richard Matheson, (an AMERICAN AUTHOR) by the same title.

The Last Man on Earth and The Omega Man were also based off of Matheson's novel

28 Days later differs in ways from the concept of I Am Legend, but is also a somewhat similar concept

But if you want to use 28 Days later to support your claim....then in a way....the British ripped off an American novel..

So before you limeys go bashing us, learn your facts!

28 weeks later and 28 days later were made a long time after teh BOOK "I am Legend" was published, so how can I Am Legend be a rip off of it? Just because you don't read doesn't mean everyone else in the world is ignorant to this. Know your bloody facts first.

But I do agree that the American versions of British/Foreign films are terrible.

I am Legend is a remake of Omega man in (1971) isn't it?

But yeah I liked Nikita (1990) aka Le Femme Nikita.

A lot better than Point Blank.

The best films??? The Italian Job is one of the best films??? And 28 Days as well??? Dude, just what is your criteria as a 'best film'? The Godfather - American. Citizen Kane - American. Ben-Hur - American. It's A Wonderful Life - American. Schindler's List - American. Young Frankenstein - American. Need I go on?

I agree to some extent but, they make the best war films ever. You gotta give them that! :0)

Because the major studios are living on Easy Street and just re-manufacturing proven formulas that will make them money. It's not our fault. We're just as pissed off about it here in the US as you are.
