Well, ladyk, what do you put in your coffee? Are you one of these people who loves lots of milk and sugar, maybe even more milk than coffee? Or lots of milk? Or even cream? Or do you drink your coffee black? Maybe you use lots of non-dairy coffee creamer?
If you don't put in lots of flavorings in your coffee, then the cat likes coffee. If she drinks it every day and has a good drink of it, then that is not really so good for her. Coffee is harsh on the stomach, if your cat has stomach issues. And coffee contains caffeine, which is a mild 'upper' for people, but I have no idea whatsoever of the effect it has on cats, and you may want to check with the vet about this.
The thing about the cat drinking coffee that would worry me is that coffee is a diuretic -- it flushes fluids out through the kidneys, and cats' kidneys are their Achilles heel. Many, many, many cats, when they are older, die of kidney failure, because the feline diet is high in protein and comparatively low in fluids, a combination that is hard on the kidneys. In time, it takes its toll. So if your cat is drinking black coffee out of your cup, she is flushing her kidneys, and you might want to invest in one of those travel mugs with the lid on it, so she can't get into the cup to drink it.
ON THE OTHER HAND, if you put lots of stuff in the coffee you drink, that may be what she likes. Non-dairy creamer's first ingredient is corn syrup solids, then partially hydrogenated oil. Or if you drink lots of milk or cream in your coffee with a little sweetner, that may just appeal to her.
Cats are mimicks, you know. They will see you do something routinely, and they will try to do or do or want to do the same thing. You have your morning coffee. You cat sees how much you enjoy it, so . . . your CAT wants to have a cup of coffee with you. That is a part of cat nature that I just love, and if I were you, I would give her her own cup of coffee.
Get her a mug or cup of her own, and if you use lots of cream and sugar in your coffee, put some Lactaid (lactose-free) milk in the cup, plus a bit of honey and just a drop or two of coffee. Nuke it so it's just warm. Then pour your own coffee in your new, lidded cup. Then sit down at the table with your cat and have a cup of coffee.
What a deal! Enjoy!

It may not be too harmful for the cat but more so harmful for you!... it is a myth that cat and dogs mouths are cleaner than humans- many forms of bacteria that are dangerous to humans are in feline saliva as well as canine saliva.
so, It would be in your best interest to keep the cat from drinking from your cup or at least do not drink from the cup after the cat has, if possible.
any further questions should be addressed to your vet.. who would be or should be informed of your cats health

Caffiene is toxic to cats and dogs. It takes 150mg/kg - body weight. Instant coffee has 60mg per teaspoon. Signs of toxicity in animals are similar to signs of hyperactivity.
A lap or two of your coffee or tea shouldn't do much harm but if you let them get into the habit of drinking it [if they like it] you may have a problem if they decide to get into a bag of tea or coffee. Best to try to stop the habit before it starts.

Not especially bad, one of my cats loves to drink coffee if one of my parents leaves a cup out by accident. I'd try not to let her drink it to often though. Oh, and this season just make sure she stays off the eggnog! God bless! >^..^<

Don't let her drink from the coffee cup...
Common sense.

One of my cats does the same thing. I think they are wanting the milk. She just sniffs and takes a lick or two, so I don't think it's too horrible. As long as it's not very much.

Has your cat committed any felonies thus far from engaging in this past time? If not, I say let the drinking continue...

No, but a problem might occur when she asks you for the sports page with her coffee. I hate sharing my sports page when I'm having my coffee! Don't you?
