Does any one know the lyrics to this hymn- Sing ye people?

This is driving me nuts, it may be a hymn composed by the nuns at my school nonetheless I thought I'd put it up first and ask here at YA.

Some of the words are as follows:

On a cold and lonely ...... night in the hills of a land called ....

There shone a star so ... and bright..........

Chorus:

Sing ye people sing of .......

Christ our lord has come to earth

Sing ye people ........

Christ was born on Christmas day

Googling (in quotes) "Sing ye people sing" only returns one hit ... a WWII military song titled "Victory Recessional" by T. Reginald Sloan. The first line begins, "Sing ye people sing His praise, Now in joy your voices raise …" but judging by the chorus ("Sheathe we the Sword") ... I'm sure this isn't what you're looking for.

Googling some of the other phrases you gave had zero results - except for "On a cold and lonely" (over 28,000 hits) and "Christ was born on Christmas day" (over 20,000 hits) which actually is a hymn and parts are vaguely similar to the words you gave ... such as "Sing out with bliss" but thats about it. Maybe it will give you something to go on (link below).

You might have the words off a bit or more likely it is as you suspect - a little known and maybe even unpublished song written by the nuns. Good luck.

  • I tried searching several of your key words (bottom google link) but nothing seemed to match. I included a link to "Name That Hymn" where you can join a Forum and ask around.

    Good luck.
