Did Russert Give Ron Paul a Fair Interview?
I noticed that most of the quotations he used were from 20-some years ago.

I'd have to see how he treats the other candidates, but I think it was fair. I wish he would have let him finish answering on some things.
Ron Paul has radical ideas and so it may take him a bit longer to answer than other candidates who are following a party line and have fairly packaged answers with a bit of personal flair.
Someone mentions he did no damage control. The truth is that Dr. Paul has strong opinions - much like our Founding Fathers. He doesn't apologize for them, but he will explain them.
For example, when they mentioned the Reagan thing - that he had been a supporter but then changed his views and now has a picture of Reagan on his materials so what's with the flip flop...
I liked his answer. A) He supported the platform on which Reagan ran. Smaller government, lower taxes, personal liberty... B) The reality was that this was not followed through and Reagan failed in many ways C) He still likes the Reagan platform and would like to see that played out - thus the picture on his materials.
Not a flip flop at all - a reasoned, intelligent answer.
He's really thought things through and has great answers. Not popular answers, but good ones.
I also like his honesty when they asked if he would run Independent if he doesn't get the Republican nod. He said he doesn't like words like "always" and "never" but he has no intention of running Independent. Makes sense.
The only concern I have with Dr. Paul is that government is enormous and slow moving. It needs to be. Huge, immediate changes are not good for a country and so it will take time to enact the changes he suggests. But he seems a patient man, passionate but patient. It's time for a change. I like him.

I'm sick of hearing Ron Paul supports cry about the "fairness" of the Russert interview.
He's tough on EVERYBODY.
All you have to do is look back at the pounding Guiliani got 2 weeks ago. Romney last week was destroyed by the flip flop props.
Paul and his people should be happy they were given a platform to discuss the issues. I was starting to get tired of seeing Paul interviewed on Cable News networks and always the first question would be "What do you think of your internet following" or "You have no chance, why are you running?".

yeah, somewhat....and Russert did try to throw some retoric into it without any reliable sources against Paul, but otherwise, Paul answers like a champion of the constitution....bottom line is , russert doesnt want to see this great man winning the nomination and he's more than happy too throw a few jabs at Ron to derail him....even Ron took note and said why arn't you asking the other candidates these questions? Why ?
its called the buddy system in the media....they have thier man Dr. Paul and we have you!!!!

Tim Russert was unbelievably GENTLE with Ron Paul. Paul's answers were so specious and confused, Russert could easily have steamrollered him if he'd wanted to. Too bad he wasn't as tough on him as he recently was on Giuliani. Ron Paul would have been a mass of quivering jelly by the end of the show, if that had happened.

Yes, he did, it was still a tough interview, which is good, but with as little dirt as Paul has on him, it was hard to be your standard giuliani or huckabee interview. In fact, huckabee has declined to come on the show again because of how he was ripped up last time. I like how Dr. Paul came off as a likeable older guy, like my father, I also like how he actually made sense and didn't have to waste time with frivolous, often personal, side issues - just the policies and statements. I also like how it showed that paul isn't perfect, but is very close. Most politicians cannot stand being called out on something hypocritical, and just attack back. He at least answered everything.

Oh, absolutely.
I mean, aren't you Ron Paul supporters the ones saying that he has NEVER flip-flopped on an issue? So by your own admission, wouldn't something he RAN FOR PRESIDENT on in 1988 be the same thing he would be pushing for today? He didn't really back off from much, other than now he's a good Republican. A REAL Republican, not like most of those people who have an (R) after their name on the ballot.
And only some of the quotes were from 88. However, even when he went into then and now, he didn't do ANYTHING to shore up damage. NOTHING.
