For the record, Andy is comparing the global warming deniers to Chamberlain. Global warming is Hitler. We should not waste time delaying action until it's too late.

Bad example, in my opinion. What Chamberlain did was actually beneficial to the West. Suppose Chamberlain had declared war on Germany in 1937 or 1938 and attacked. The resulting war would have decimated Germany before it could attack the Soviet Union. Japan might never have declared war on the United States. Which country would have benefited the most from a weakened Germany and Britain combined with a United States that never developed its industrial capacity, military, or nuclear weapons? If you said the Soviet Union you are correct.

Chamberlain didn't do what he did out of a sense of personal comfort or because he was a coward. He calculated that by "appeasing" Hitler, he might force him eastwards into attacking the Soviet Union. Getting Germans to kill Communists seemed like a good idea to Chamberlain. That he was ultimately correct in his assessment was not very reassuring to the French, who suffered through 4 years of German occupation (which might not seem so bad compared to what might have been a Soviet-dominated Europe).

Anyway, the skeptics now are not acting like Chamberlain, with a deep, hidden agenda playing off two powerful enemies. The skeptics, as near as I can tell, are motivated by a sense of entitlement to their privileges and a deep-seated right-wing/libertarian mistrust of government. They are not operating out of a fundamental master plan that has any strategic goal. They just don't believe because if they did believe it would imply that maybe they should do something about their lifestyle.

Climate change has been real for the entire existence of this planet, with the latest ice age ending about 10,000 years ago. Since then, the glaciers have retreated 2,000 miles and the oceans have risen hundreds of feet. And we are supposed to think we are doing this?

Rather, we should see the folks claiming we are behind it as 'Chicken Little'.
