Macbook vs. Macbook Pro vs. PC Laptop...what to get?
sorry if this question has been asked so many times before...
Should i get a Macbook, Macbook PRO, or a PC Laptop. If a Mac, what features/upgrades should i get? If a PC laptop, what brands/model & upgrades should i get?
I plan on using the laptop most definately for:
* Photoshopping,
* Photos, MP3s & Document storing,
* Internet,
* CD&DVD burning,
* Watching DVD movies,
* MP3 music listening & downloading
Besides that, i don't see any other tasks I would be using the laptop for.
- I was born and raised on a PC...hehe, and never owned a Mac.
- I'm hoping i could be able to use & transfer files from my PC to a Mac & vice versa w/out compatability problems.
- I'm also very, very tempted to switch to a Mac because of all the problems (blue screen, spy/adware, virus) i have encountered with PC's.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Viruses for Macs exist...... but they are not as common as windows viruses.
You might have a tough time getting used to a mac for the first few days... but u'll get used to it...
But really, macs and PCs can do the same tasks... it really doesnt matter, just pick one based on your opinion.

I've had good experience with Toshiba laptops - just about everyone I know has some make or model from Toshiba and they work great. They're low cost compared to other companies, come with the newest version of Windows, and they're reliable.
If you want to get rid of the virus, bsod, and adware problems but want the flexibility of a PC, you could get a laptop preinstalled with Ubuntu Linux instead. Linux has less viruses and problems than Windows and most programs are free and install directly from add/remove programs. It sometimes takes a little extra effort to solve the occasional problem, but in the end for me it's worth it.
And a third option - go with a Toshiba laptop and then dual boot Ubuntu Linux with Windows. That's what I do and I love it - I use Linux for everything except the few games I still use on Windows, and I'm all set.
ETA: Ubuntu Linux can now mount NTFS (Windowx XP and above) partitions so you get that compatibility with files you wanted as well.

Macbook Pro.
It's fast in terms of graphics processing. I don't see the need of you to play games so a Mac will just do it (Macs are not the best gaming computers by the way, you may wish to choose a PC if you are a gamer).
Your files can be all transferred to a Mac with no compatibility issue. The only thing is that executable programs in Windows are .exe files while in Mac they are .dmg or .app files. So Windows programs cannot run on a Mac. However, with enough Apple designed programs at hand, who needs Windows programs?
Most importantly, Mac is absolutely safe. No anti-virus is required, at least for now. So you can use a mac with a peace in mind. Besides, there is no blue-screen for mac. You can always Force Quit a program by pressing the Apple + Alt and Esc at the same time.
Finally, Mac allows you to install Windows if you really want to. But PC does not allow that.
Let's revise your options here again:
* Photoshopping - Mac (Photoshop works best on a mac)
* Photos, MP3s & Document storing - Neutral
* Internet - Mac (Safari is the fastest browser with pop-up blocking and download management utility)
* CD&DVD burning - Mac (which comes with superdrive, and it's push-in drive!)
* Watching DVD movies - Mac (better screen and color, however, if you watch videos which are not DVD format, I'd suggest a PC because Quicktime can't play a lot formats)
* MP3 music listening & downloading - Mac (iTunes)
I bought my first mac a few months ago, I was completely carried away by its ease to use and security. It's expensive I know but it gives you a feeling that every perfectly personalized feature is worth the money. Apple is truly a perfectionist much like me:)

I suggest a Macbook or a Macbook Pro
In a Mac is included iLife which is a suite of software applications created by Apple, designed for Mac OS X. These programs are used to create, organize, view and publish digital content, such as pictures, movies, music, and web pages. iLife '08, released in August 2007, consists of five applications: iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb.
P.S.: A Mac doesn't need a virus protection ;)
Runs Windows too

I know some about compters, as a matter of fact my major is Computer Science. If you are only going to use your lap top for the following reasons: social networking,youtube videos, email, instant messaging, pics, vid, chatting,word, power piont, excel, you do not need to spent all the money on a laptop. Mac Pro is between $1200 to $2500 depending on what you get ( not worth it for what you are going to use it for) I recommend you get a laptop that has a core 2 duo quad (it's pretty fast), try to get atleast 4 GB of ram and enough hard drive space for your pictures and videos. You can get a pretty good laptop for about 500-600 dollars, you don't need to spend so much money on something that you are not going to use.

MB Pro is awesome!
If you're worried about learning the Mac system, don't! And if you are, you could always run Windows.
