Ok, so I do not have all 5 double ended knitting needles, and I was just wondering if there is a pattern to knit a hat that only requires two??

Well, to knit with double pointed needles, minimally you need at least 4 (3 to hold stitches and one to work with), but that said, you can knit any hat that has instructions for knitting in the round on straight needles, back and forth, but you must add one extra stitch to seam with because you'll have to sew it up. If your hat pattern has color patterning, or stitch patterning, this extra stitch should just be knit with the color required for the next stitch in the row, or simply slipped as if to purl either for patterning or colorwork, because it isn't part of either, on the way back it is worked appropriately (knit or purled as required). You can also start knitting it on a circular needle---16 or 21 inch ones work best for adult hats, but children's hats need the 16 inch one--but you'll need to finish it either with 2 circulars or double points when you get to the decreases. There are many hat patterns that are intended to be knit flat from the outset too, so looking at some of the free patterns in all the usual sources is a good option.

Sure, just knit whatever "flat" with a seam to be joined later.

    Pick a pattern, any pattern.

My favorite quicky hat pattern is "Begin knitting a sweater from the hem upward. When you reach the point where it says to decrease for armholes, bind off all the way across. Seam into a cylinder. Seam the top straight across flat. Join the two peaks produced by the second seam with a pom-pom or a punk pin."

Contrawise, the seams of a sweater can be undone to conveniently construct two such hats with plenty of other stuff left over for potholders.

you cant knit circular on 2 double pointed needles, you can however make a hat flat.

There is the option of using 4 you just have to divide the stitches for them into 3 instead of 4. Then also for 2 just divide them into 2 instead of 4. Most sets of Double Point needles come in 4's, of course you will have to use stitch markers for the decreases and also for any patterns though. I always only use 4 needles total for hats. Any more questions There are several groups and also knitting sites to help, like

My favorite pattern came from Stitch N' *****. It's called hot head and you use straight needles. Just cast on and knit until you've reached your desired depth and then decrease for the crown. Then when you have 10 or less stitches left on the needle cut the yarn leaving a 20" tail, put it through a needle and thread it through the remaining stitches. Then just sew down the seam. I absoutely love this hat and it only takes a few hours to knit up.
