Huckabee supporters, why are you backing him?

Which issues are you basing your vote on?? Please be specific.

Update:

Bradley, what exactly are his ideas on immigration?

Update 2:

Do you know what his record on immigration is?

Update 3:

xz, you didn't mention an actual issue and where he stands or his record on it. Can you give me a specific issue and hucks stand that you are supporting?

Update 5:

Sell, I also like the fairtax plan. But, I have my doubts that huckabee will really push for it. It seems like if he really thought that abolishing the tax on income was a good thing he would have pushed to get rid of income tax in AR. But, he didn't. He did raise our taxes though.

Update 6:

I don't think that the president can do too much about getting the fairtax made law. He can raise interest in it and appeal to the people in the country to contact their congressmen, but that is all. That is a job of congress. The thing to do is to elect lawmakers who support the fairtax. There are things that I really like about the fairtax but there are also scarey parts to it.

Huckabee never seemed to be an advocate for the fairtax UNTIL the last few months. It seems like an 11th hour conversion to try to get votes.

Update 7:

em, isn't his record of what he has actually DONE while in office a much better indication of what he really stands for instead of what he now says after reading polls? Especially, when his change in opinion is so sudden and drastic?

Update 8:

em, huckabee does realize the a bill was passed that gave the president the line item veto but the supreme court found it to be unconstitional and struck it down, doesn't he?

Update 9:

Bradley,so you support amnesty for all of the illegals who are here? Thats what huckabee supports.

Update 10:

You all do realize that huckabee's immigration plan involves legalizing ALL of the current illegal immigrants if they admit guilt and pay a fine. That sounds like amnesty to me even if huckabee doesn't call it that.

I have found myself in a tough spot over the past few days.

Here's my plan. Go to the Republican caucus down the street from me on Thursday night, caucus for Hunter, when his group isn't viable, (you need 15% of the people there to be in your preference group to be viable, or your group is dissolved and you either join another group or go home,) go to Huckabee's group.

The problem is, I have begun to think about it, and don't know why that's my plan. Sure, he impressed me when he was here at the Straw Poll, but Obama, dispite the fact I disagree with him on many, many things, impresses me with his desire to be a leader. Clinton I think just wants to be in charge, while Obama has given me the impression that he wants to lead. I am actually leaning more towards Obama.

But, once locked into one party's caucus, you either go to another group, or go home.

The serious debate for me is to caucus for who I want, then end up with someone else, or go home, which I really don't want, or start with the guy who I like and stick with him, even though he's not my real first peference.

I am kind of stuck because I really, really want to caucus for Hunter, but go in knowing that I will not end up in his group at the end of the night. I will either be in no group by going home, maybe get lucky and "undecided" is viable, and end up there, go to Huckabee's group, or maybe take another look at McCain, or just go to the Democratic caucus, and stick with Obama all night long.

For a Reagan Republican, this is honestly a situation I never thought I would be in, although polls are indicating that at least here in Iowa, Republican's first choise is for a Democratic candidate is Obama. Not sure why, maybe a list of reasons. Maybe they think he will be an easy kill in the fall. Then again, in 76, the Republican party thought Carter would be an easy kill in the fall.

The "FAIR TAX" and the need for "CHANGE"

People who think our current tax system works are just plain idiotic in my opinion, do you know how much stress normal people feel towards tax time every year? This is the main reason I'm voting for Huckabee, but I also think he's the only straight shooter in the race besides Ron Paul. I would love to see a Mike Huckabee/Ron Paul ticket come presidential election time. Even though they don't agree on certain issues, you know that major change would occur with that president/vice president combo.

Best record on immigration with ideas and solutions for both legal and illegal immigration.

Helps that he also is a strong supporter of the FAIR TAX.

It appears as if a question I had posted a few days ago with a link to a website that rates candidates on immigration has been removed, and not by me. Must mean some liberal whack complained I "insulted" them. Will try to find that link and post it soon. Sorry. Here is his stance:

Securing our borders must be our top priority and has reached the level of a national emergency.

I support the $3 billion the Senate has voted for border security. This money will train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone planes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and put up 105 radar and camera towers. This money will turn "catch and release" into "catch and detain" of those entering illegally, and crack down on those who overstay their visas.

In this age of terror, immigration is not only an economic issue, but also a national security issue. Those caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported. As Governor, I ordered my state troopers to work with the Department of Homeland Security to arrest illegals and enforce federal immigration law.

I oppose and will never allow amnesty. I opposed the amnesty President Bush and Senator McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer, and opposed the misnamed DREAM Act, which would have put us on the slippery slope to amnesty for all.

I oppose and will not tolerate sanctuaries for illegals. The federal government must crack down on rogue cities that willfully undermine our economy and national security.

I oppose giving driver's licenses to illegals and supports legislation to prevent states from doing so. In 2005, I signed legislation that prevents illegals in Arkansas from getting driver's licenses.

I will stop punishing cities which try to enforce our laws and protect the economic well-being, physical safety, and quality of life of their citizens.

I oppose and will not tolerate employers who hire illegals. They must be punished with fines and penalties so large that they will see it is not worth the risk.

I oppose the economic integration of North America that would create open borders among the United States, Canada, and Mexico. I will never yield one iota or one inch of our sovereignty.

I will take our country back for those who belong here. No open borders, no amnesty, no sanctuary, no false Social Security numbers, no driver's licenses for illegals.

You asked for details, so here goes:

immigration - "I support the $3 billion the Senate has voted for border security. energy - "Achieving energy independence is vital to achieving success both in the war on terror and in globalization. Energy independence will help guarantee both our safety and our prosperity.

We have to explore, we have to conserve, and we have to pursue all avenues of alternative energy: nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen, clean coal, biodiesel, and biomass."

healthcare - "We don't need universal health care mandated by federal edict.

We do need to get serious about preventive health care.

I advocate policies that will encourage the private sector to seek innovative ways to bring down costs.

I value the states' role as laboratories for new market-based approaches.

When I'm President, Americans will have more control of their health care options, not less.

As President, I will work with the private sector, Congress, health care providers, and other concerned parties to lead a complete overhaul of our health care system. "

education - "Test scores rose dramatically when I was Governor of Arkansas because of my education reforms.

I have been a strong, consistent supporter of the rights of parents to home school their children, of creating more charter schools, and of public school choice. "

taxes - "I support the FairTax.

As Governor of Arkansas, I cut taxes and fees almost 100 times, saving the taxpayers almost $380 million. I left a surplus of nearly $850 million, which I urged should go back to the people.

Our massive deficit is not due to Americans' being under-taxed, but to the government's over-spending.

To control spending, I believe the President should have the line-item veto.

I believe in free trade, but it has to be fair trade."

    He's not a phony....

Likeable, generally smart, a little green in foreign policy but he may be a good VP.
