Assigning a drive letter for a canon camera?
With a fresh install of XP, a lot of canon cameras just get picked up as "scanners and cameras" by the OS. I need to assign a drive letter to it, but cannot see how.
Computer management does not show the drive to assign a letter, and not NOT ALL cameras show up as a drive by default. That is a common missunderstanding.
So.. any ideas?
The drive letter needs to be assigned for a recovery app, not the management of photos, hence the need....
Thanks for answers so far.

digital units are generally unable to have a force letter because of the fact it is not a detachable force. in case you have a card reader and your digital camera takes a memory motor vehicle plugging your memory card rapidly right into a reader is the only way. So no remember in case you pc has an adapter outfitted in or you may desire to purchase a card reader that's the only way. Sorry if this would nicely be a unhappiness.

If the camera doesn't take a letter automatically it probably needs the drivers loaded from the originally supplied Canon CD, or by downloading them from Cacnon's website.

Every camera's driver is different. Some use the so-called scanner interface, and others add a drive. When you plug your camera in, you might even see both.
But Canon cameras are best managed using their special software. Just use that to transfer your photos into a series of folders under My Pictures.
Make a CD-R of your photos from time to time. First as a backup; but also to bring with you to WalMart, Walgreens or other store that has a do-it-yourself photo printing station. You see, when you PRINT on your own printer, it costs you somewhere between $.50 and $1.00 to make your own. But at these retail stores, a photo is often sold for just $.19. DO the Math, that's alot cheaper when you plan ahead.
Good luck and Happy Computing!
