Is it OK for my 6 month old to drink goats milk instead of formula?
I have tried every formula made and my 6 month old just spits it up all day. My husband was only able to tolerate goats milk when he was a baby, so I tried it on my son and it works great. My Dr. is saying No, to switch back to formula. I need advice, has anybody used the goats milk on their baby?

Hi. I do not know about that, but I read this post and got curious about the answers. As a mom myself, of a 4 month old girl, I want to know more about taking care of a baby. I am breastfeeding, after struggling in the first few weeks and having to fight for it. It is not an easy fight. Now, when I see a mom trying to feed her baby anything closer to human milk, I see nothing but the best intentions. Right or wrong, she is going after more information. We all know that formula is an alternative way to human milk, but it does not come close to human milk's benefits. So I ask, what is wrong with doing a little research on options? Then people come here and bother to be RUDE and ABUSIVE, calling names, saying "stupid people shouldn't breed stupid people"... What the hell?? Soo disrespecfull. I thought that moms were more compassionate of other moms. But that is maybe just me. I would NEVER call a mom a name like that when she is trying to see about feeding her baby, what is good and what is bad, what is right and what is wrong. No one was born with knowledge. You have to go after it. And that is what this mom is doing. You people that came here just to be mean, with arrogance, as if you were born knowing everything, I hope you read this because... shame on you! Don't have any help to offer? Stay quiet!!! Now I apologize for not contributing with a real answer to your question. But I can't go quiet. Good luck to you. ****ps OneBadAss Mommy, you seem to know more than all these arrogant people here. I am glad you took the time to answer and be HELPFUL..

You can MAKE formula from goats milk but you can't give ONLY goats milk.
Here is ONE recipe for goats milk, please note that you MUST use the powdered goats milk from that specific company because it is already supplemented with certain vitamins:

I have been having similar problems and have been researching the info on the Weston Price foundation that has already been posted. I have a few friends that have used these recipes and their children are fine. Using these recipes puts all the nutrients that are present in breast milk into the formula...so all the nay sayers that say formula has essentials that you can't get from goats milk don't understand the concept of homemade formula. My problem is a husband that is fighting me on this decision or I would already be doing it.

No, it's not OK.
Your baby can't digest the proteins in anything except breastmilk. Formula is especially modified to break down the proteins. Any other sort of milk is bad for a young baby (under 1 year old). It may not be coming back up, but it also isn't giving him the nourishment he needs.
Some babies do just spit up all day. Mine did and he was breastfed. Didn't mean a thing. You need to go back to the doctor, tell him how your baby responds to formula, and see what he suggests. There are specialist formulas which are not based on cows' milk, he might need one of those.

I grew up on it. No big deal. The only formula my kids could handle was soy. Do what works for your kid, go with your instincts. they always did in the old days.

yes my mom raised my brother on it because of the absorption quality he loved it and he grew up with no problems. Make sure it is homogenized and handled carefully like cow's milk. good luck!
He's 40 now and graduated at the top of his class in high school and collage. He also knows 4 different languages. formula isn't all it's cracked up to be I wouldn't suggest making your own formula it could be dangerous. sorry.

Formula, like breast milk, has essential fats and nutrients which help for proper growth and brain development. You can give whatever you want, but your child won't be meeting his/her nutritional and brain developmental needs if you choose to do so. They have all kinds of formula to use, try more than one kind. They have lactose free, soy, nutrimegin, etc.
