what type of automatic handgun should I buy?

I am a security officer and I am going to buy a gun that I can carry on-duty but will be a cop within the next 6 months so I am wondering which handgun would be a good choice to buy so I only have to buy one right now? Why?

Update:

yeah I meant semi-automatic sorry

    I think you mean - SEMI-automatic handgun.

I promise you that you will get different answers and suggestions from everyone. You will get advice to buy a certain brand/model, etc, etc, etc.

First, you should find out what guns are on the approved list of the department(s) you hope to get a job at... IT is possible that they MAKE you carry their specific gun - or, they may allow you to buy your own gun, provided it meets their requirements (some depts give you a gun, but you can carry your own, if you choose - and some depts do NOT allow you to use anything but their gun).

Then, you should find a place that will rent various guns (I have a local range that rents them for $5 each, but of course you must buy the ammo from the range if you use a range gun). Find out what you like the most. Grip the various guns - see what is most comfortable. Then, try shooting them. A gun might be comfortable to hold, but not necessarily to shoot. If you have a friend who owns guns, this may also be a way to go, and it will save you the rental fees.

Any of the brand names are good - Springfield, Beretta, Glock, Walther, Ruger, CZ, and HK, just to name a few. But, by renting and trying the guns, you will see the style you want - a gun with a safety/without one. A gun with an external hammer/a gun without one. A metal gun/a polymer gun. A double action/single action gun, or a gun that is consistent on every shot.

I have my favorite (which has actually changed a few times, over the years), but if you really new to semi-autos, and have no one to show you how to operate one, then you should seek instruction locally, and also find out what works best for you. Me (or anyone else) telling you what to buy won't do you much good.

Also, you may want to seek out someone to teach you the tricks of shooting a handgun... Learn how to hold the gun, the trick of SQUEEZING the trigger right to the breaking point before you actually fire the gun (not jerking it), how to stand, etc. I had an old range master give me some tips years ago, and that really gave me the skills to be a better shooter!

Quite easy, if you know you are going to be a cop in the next 6 months then buy the gun that the department will issue you. Then you can be used to it before the academy. Other than that there are many good semi-autos out there. My favorites are the glock and Heckler and Koch. The Glocks because the same mags can be used in all of the same guns with the same calibre. This makes carrying a backup gun in the same calibre so much easier because you can use your full size mags. The only draw back is the triggers are not that easy to get used to. If you get one right out of the box, Just remember there is the slack and then there is the trigger weight. Take up the slack and then squeeze the trigger. Keep practicing this until it becomes fluid and then you accuracy will greatly improve. OR go get yourself a Ghost inc trigger connector, in either the 4.5 ranger or the 3.5 ultimate. This will eliminate that slack. The Heckler and Koch, get the new variant in the DAO LEM trigger, have an armorer throw in the 4.5 lb spring and enjoy. Both of these manuafacturers guns are the best and can be used in any environment.

I reccommend going to a range and trying out different weapons. Everyone has their favorites, although I usually reccomend to my friends to start with a reliable full sized pistol chambered in 9mm.9mm is fairly cheap and you don't have to worry about as much recoil as a or .45. I also never reccomend a Glock as a pistol for beginners because it lacks an external safety. I started out with a Beretta 92f. As stated earlier, 9mm doesn't have the most stopping power but, it can differ depending on the specific brand of ammunition you use. I also like the fact that you can carry 15 rounds + 1 in the chamber. Its also cool because you can safely carry it in Double Action without engaging the safety because it is virtually impossible to discharge the weapon without an intentional trigger squeeze. However, that is just my personal reccomendation but, it is different for everyone. Just take care to make sure you learn how to shoot the proper way or you will have to unlearn everything once you train to become a cop. As far as carrying any weapon you buy now as a cop, it is probably unlikely that you will be allowed to. My department striclty prohibited us from carrying any personal weapon and/or ammunition on duty.

If you're going to be a cop then find out which handguns are used by your future employer and pick from those. Test them out on the range and see which one you like best.

I'm pretty fond of my Glock 21. 13+1 rounds of 45 acp attitude adjustment.

9mm Beretta. Easy to handle, not to much kick. And you can buy rounds with more stopping power. Remember, you are looking for a gun that you can handle and will give you the best shot group. Plus with the 15 round clip and one in the pipe, you can feel confident you won't run shy on amo. One shot-One kill.

not too previously, I employed a contractor(on L.I.,N.Y.) to place in super tiles in my lobby and baths. I chosen the tile, called the contractor and he picked the tile up, instructed me he have been given a 25% low cost on the tile, and gave me a million/2 off (12.5%) on the tiles, plus I had to pay for the exertions, which I have been given a senior low cost of 10%. The tile save might have given me a 5% low cost on the tile, so altogether, I wound up getting a 22.5% low cost. not undesirable, i might say.to answer your question concerning the kind of license determining how lots low cost a contractor might get. not so. the bigger the quantity of tile orders a contractor will supply to a tile enterprise will take care of to pay for a more suitable low cost, i'm instructed.

An automatic handgun is against the law.

Depends. How many people do you want to kill how fast?

Be sure to check what the police department you will be on will allow, and what they provide. Dallas used to only allow issued weapons, then they only allowed revolvers, and restricted ammo. Then they issued Glocks, and said no non-issued ammo because they wanted an accounting of every round expended, and to ensure that every round was of the right type of bullet.
