I have just got a new computer and want to keep my internet connection from my laptop. I still have the wireless card and have bought a PCMCIA-PCI card. But it won`t work. Why not?? My husband says we need some kind of CardBus Controller, what is this and where can we download one from. Please help me if you can, thank you.

Open the Device Manager and expand the "PCMCIA adapters" entry. Find the entry for your adapter, probably reads "PCMCIA Adapter." Open the properties for your adapter device. Check to see if the adapter's (general) properties are correct. Two important things follow here: driver and resources. First, under resources tab, verify that an IRQ (interrupt request) is set. In a multi-processor PC, Windows uses the IOAPIC (interrupt controller) to assign interrupts from the PCI bus, based on information provided by the BIOS. CardBus adapters are usually enumerated by the BIOS as PCI to CardBus bridges and as such most BIOS's consider them as not requiring an IRQ. If you have a dual-core, and there is not an IRQ assigned, you may be 404 - that is, your card may not be found, period. But, look under drivers tab. Tap the "update driver" button. If this process does not work, I advise you to check the card manufacturer's website for device-specific help, and downloads. Good luck.

If the computer recognizes the network adapter then all you need is the cd that came with the adapter. Load the network adapter drivers from the cd.
If the machine is not recognizing the adapter then you may need to run live updates from Microsoft's site.
You may also need to go into the properties of your hardware and remove the bus controller and then click on scan fro new hardware.
Good Luck!

You did not say whether you have a wireless router. I assume that you have one. Search Internet for “XXXXX PCMCIA-PCI wireless driver”, where XXXXX is the manufacturer and model.
Have you looked at Windows Help for "wireless"?
