Why do people wait?
until the middle of winter to fix their heaters & the middle of summer to fix their air conditioners? Wouldn't it make more sense to have these things maintained earlier?

It comes from the comfort factor. When they get uncomfortable, they do something about it, and not before. Also, they do not know they have a problem until they try to use the appropriate seasonal feature.

you don't use the heater as much in summer time so it doesn't go bad till winter when you use it more often same as the air conditioning,and the old saying goes dont fix it if its not broken..

No because in the winter my cat crawls into the hood of my car and i started it and it got sucked into my belts and messed up my ac compressor and i didnt want to use the ac in the winter because it would be too cold so i didnt which caused me not to know about it and made me realize it when it was cold....
