Hermes was the god of knowledge and invention. The Greeks identified him with Thoth, the Egyptian god of knowledge. He was one of the gods of Greek education. The famous school of Athens, the Lyceum, where Plato taught was a shrine of Hermes.

The other gods of education and knowledge were Apollo and the Muses. The Muses were daughters of Memory and goddesses of the arts and libraries. Our word Museum comes from the Greek word Mouseion, a temple of the Muses. The most famous Mouseion was the Great Library of Alexandria, a great centre of learning, dedicated to the nine goddesses.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom, i.e. good advice or clever counsel. She was also a goddess of the crafts, and the patron goddess of invention. Her most famous pupil was the great mythical artificer Daedalus.

The Greek Goddess of Wisdom was called Athena, Pallas Athene and her roman name was Minerva.

She was put into the world by Zeus, King of the God's. He swallowed his wife, and one day split his head open and she sprung forth out of it in full armor holding a spear. She holds a grudge against Poseidon and is the reason of Medeusa's monstrous appearence. Her bird is the owl and her tree the olive. Athens was named after her because they held a contest between her and Poseidon to see whom the city would be named for. Poseidon created a spring and stream through the city while Athene gave them the gift of the fine olive tree. And a few resources have also said she is also the Goddess of war, although mostly known for Wisdom/Knowledge and learning. She created the loom and is known for fine crafts... She is one of the Virgin Goddesses and has known to be very rash occasionally.

    My mom :)

Yes it was Athena. Athena and her father Zeus were known as the two wisest minds in Greek mythology. Her father Zeus was so frighten of her, that he ate her mother so she wouldn't be born. It's said that one day Zeus had a pain in his forehead and from there, Athena came out.

Athena would always be faithful to her father. It's believed that she was on her father's side every time there was war. She beat her uncle Poseidon for the rights of the city what is known today as Athens.

Athena planted an olive tree and it was more useful to people than the creation of her uncle's Poseidon.
