My laptop sometimes doesn't shutdown.?

I have an HP DV6000 laptop with Windows Vista....I say about 3 out of 10 times, it doesn't shut down properly. Usually when I shut it down, the side bar goes away, then it continues to shut down. But when it doesn't shut down properly, the side bar will go away but that's it. Like today before I left, I shut it down and when I came back home after 4 hours it still hadn't shut down.

Is there something wrong with it, or a way of shutting it down properly while it's like this so I don't have to end up pulling the battery out like usual.

Thanks

Update:

I always make sure the battery is fully charged, because I have it plugged in all of the time, so I don't think it has anything to do with the battery.

I have exactly the same model, it (once, now I'm back to Xp pro) ran Vista Premium. It took as long as 5 minuets to shut down. I have no idea why it take so long and after speaking to hp they have no idea either. try running spyware scans and defragmenting. It might help some. your problem seems to be worse then mine.

No answer for your problem, but rather than shut it down, why don't you just put it into "hibernate" mode.
